I go to NRL games and cricket games.
The NRL suffers from its scheduling and TV selections.
It also suffers from winning-itis.
As a member of the Thunder since day dot, it's funny remembering how many times I went to an almost empty ANZ stadium.
That they moved to the smaller Spotless and started to win, helped them wonders.
The other thing is, as noted in many many many threads in LU, BBL is six weeks, in summer, in holidays. Warm balmy evenings, a few beers, etc.
That said, it's not like the NRL can't do something similar. I've been pleasantly surprised by the music playing between sets and at breakdowns during Souths games this year similar to the BBL's music between overs. Never thought I'd hear The Smiths, the Psychedelic Furs or Alice In Chains at the footy.
The NRL needs to get some fresh people in for marketing and cross promotion. They have 8 games a week they can sell match day entertainment for. They give the clubs the music, the venue plays it, nek minnit, an essential NRL CD on the shelves for Father's Day. It ain't hard. This is where the AFL win. Not only with their BS media suck ups but they've tied themselves to products and sell to their fans...even if they don't make a big cut....build it and they will come. The NRL problem is, they also want $$$$$$$$ for every bit of merch they do. The cost on manufacturers/suppliers is huge. Footy cards etc are high priced for kids because the NRL charge exorbitant fees to the manufacturer.
The NRL product is far superior for attending supporters AND TV viewers. The NRL and the clubs need to strike a good balance and go forth and build the base.
