It's a local derby. Both the Sharks and Dragons put requests in for "good" timeslots at the start of the season because it's a bankable gate draw. The games are usually highly competitve and willing. Of course they are ignored by the broadcasters, with the Sharks home game being 6pm on Sunday earlier in the year.

Yeah I agree, should be the Sunday game and the roosters game should be the fri 6pm one.

If there was a venue in Sydney that works in the 6pm timeslots favour, Allianz is probably the best one without too much of a stuff up

So lets play hypotheticals and pretend we are in a world where NRL has charge of the Fixtures and times. Accepting that we are stuck with two sht times in Thurs and early Fri, what might this weeks games have looked like if NRL was choosing slots based on max crowds and what could be done to boost crowd attendance?(leaving aside the Brisbane double header thing)

Thurs night Panther v Warriors - suburban ground, make it free for NZ passport holders, unlikely to draw a big crowd whatever day Target 12k
Fri 6pm Roosters v Eels - Best situated stadium, promote in city, free entry for eels members Target 15k
Fri 7.50pm Bulldogs v Cowboys - Sydney Adult game of the round - free entry to any NRL member, some pre match Fri night activity like a boutique beer village and spit roast, band etc outside Target 15k
Sat 3pm Sea Eagles v Broncos - suburban ground with no cover so pray for sunshine Target 12k
Sat 5.30pm Wests v Rabbitohs - Sydney Family game of the round. Free entry for under 16's. free entry for any NRL member. Cheap kids dinner packs, loads of things for families Target 25k
Sat 7.50pm Storm v Titans - Pre game events from 6pm to get people to enjoy a great Saturday night out Target 17k
Sun 2pm Knights v Raiders - Loads of family stuff, afternoon games draw well I Newcastle regardless Target 17k
Sun 4pm Dragons v Sharks - Sydney derby game of the round. Free entry to sharks members, hype the rivalry and derby aspect of the game all week. Target 17k

Why are people blaming Thursday Night? You could have played that same game tonight, tomorrow or Sunday and you wouldn't have hit 10k. Thursday night isn't the problem on this occasion.

in the future , a game like this needs to be in a regional area on a Sunday arvo , to compensate for the loss of CVC

Wagga
Dubbo
Tamworth

where ever , it may not draw many more then last night in Sydney
but it will look 1000 times better & not harm the brand , on top of giving country folk access to top line live football.

I think In a perfect world nrl would prefer Sunday 6pm over thurs night

Also Friday possibly 6:30pm instead of 6 - an extra 30 minutes time for people coming from work
