What's your solution besides bleating and throwing out insults in a vain attempt to look tuff.

And I'm not interested in science fiction or fantasy when it comes to solutions.

If the nrl actually said they were canning the cvc and here's the schedule for next year with these regional centres getting games on these weekends and we're doing promo and carnivals...

But no. Just more gassy lip service.

big hit!

What the f**k is the nrl doing ? Tonight was disgraceful. Do they love empty stadiums because everyone watches on tv and that's where the money is ?. I see zero effort to get crowds back ? It's garbage going to games these days. no atmosphere, no entertainment pre game or halftime, need to make it affordable and make every f**king game an event and people might get off there arse and buy a ticket.

watching that drivel on TV is reason enough not to go to a game. watch the NFL or the Premier League and you feel a want to get to a match to be part of the atmosphere and the event.

I agree with someone who said that many games need to return to suburban venues and keep the big matches for Olympic Park for Canterbury, Parra & Tigers. Souths shouldn't even be there. It's plain ridiculous that a club that calls itself South Sydney plays their home games on the border of the (Outer) Inner West and Western Sydney. Get back to f**kin Moore Park. I might actually go to a few games. As it is, Sydney FC have now fill the void my league team South Sydney have left.

The NRL has a few good weeks for the initial month, then slides into obscurity until mid-July when places and seedings for finals are hotting up. This is the major sport in the most populous parts of the country. 8122. That's a poor f**king roll-up in any one's language. That's not the spectators fault, it's the decisions HQ have made to get to the status quo.

Furthermore, rarely do I hear or see proper discussion of the weekly games of rugby league. You get so much breakdown and analysis of what actually goes on the park in other sports. The rugby league media prefers shit about contracts, feuds, and which player has beaten up who, or snorted what. Is the game itself that boring that we don't find it interesting to actually discuss what happens on the field? More like they've got no f**king clue. Look at the sport's main journalist in Phil Rothfield and his NSW team. He has a bench of Moylan, Fifita, Jackson and Cartwright. Apart from Fifita, who else is going to play in the middle rotation out of that lot when Woods, Klemmer and Frizzell need a breather? You are really going to have Jackson and Cartwright doing some grunt work in Origin together? FMD!

NRL have to be seriously f**king careful here. I didn't watch last night purely because I hate turning on the TV to be put to sleep by shit atmosphere and dead looking stadiums. If they want people to watch then they need to still offer an attractive product.

lol someone who makes the effort to sign up to a rugby league forum, not watching because they don't like seeing empty seats

I get your point, but watching a game where the crowd is buzzing is far more exciting than watching a game where the stadium is dead

Rows and rows of empty seats are embarrassing to the clubs and the code

Compare our Anzac Day game and last nights game as spectacles worth watching

The game should be aiming to get Anzac Day crowds to every f**king game, not patting ourselves on the back and having jizm flinging contests because we manage it once a f**king year

I have no motivation to go tonight my mates working, looks it could rain and it's going to be a shit atmosphere.
If it was a smaller stadium going on your own isnt so bad you get a bit of banter with other people in the crowd. But I always feel at ANZ if you sit within 13 rows of another person they will think your a total oddball.
It was great last Saturday night at Campbelltown if only we could have half that atmosphere at every game.

You're right, but also compare the quality of the game.
If anyone flicked off the game you can point your finger at the shithouse footy Des has the Dogs playing more than empty sets.

Origin games are the most boring, dour games of the year. People flock to watching it in droves because it's an event and the atmosphere is electric. It doesn't matter how shit the matches is people find it exciting for that reason.

You're right that the show style of play is a turn off at times. I still think having a pitiful crowd takes away from the enjoyment of the match. A big loud crowd just makes things more exciting.

Don't get me wrong I love league, it's the best sport in the world by a mile. Like all sports though it's simply more exciting with a big crowd and awesome atmosphere.

So far ratings haven't been too affected (though I think the lack of growth could be party attributed to it). Until ratings drop the NRL won't take notice.

Origin games at their worst are still tense, brutal, gripping affairs, even if the style of play has been conservative in recent years.
Origin games have years of reputation of throwing up big moments.

Last nights Dogs performance was none of those things.

That said - I'm not disagreeing that a big crowd and atmosphere helps generally.
I still think you're a weirdo if you're on this site enough to complain about crowds but switch the TV off due to empty seats.

He's not alone, I considered watching then decided it was just such a non event I wouldn't bother, and I pay for it through Fox so am actually paying for something that I actively decided not to access! I used to watch every game religiously, now I'm down to 3 or 4 a weekend at best. If die hards like us on here are being turned off what do you think it means for attracting new fans or the less committed.

You can string expletives together all you like about people not wanting to watch game in empty stadiums with no atmosphere but it just shows your lack of understanding at what the masses want when they turn on their Tv's to tune into a sports event.

This.

In fact they're not even bothering with the lip service as much anymore.

Roy Masters put it thus on the weekend, it's a message from the NRL to country RL that "you're dead".

Ratings are down 5% overall and much greater on FTA.

Great scheduling tonight. A 2v3 derby match gets the 6pm timeslot at Kogarah. I know tonnes of blokes that normally go to this game religiously who simply cannot get there, and a cursory glance at social media shows hundreds of sharks fans in the same boat.

The prime time slot goes to 13th v 14th in a venue that a prime time game was played in last night, almost totally empty.

Just baffling.

TBf we are still in a world where the NRL gave over its ability to actually make decisions for the benefit of the game to TV. If we still see this sht next year when the NRL decides who plays when, then we should organise a lynch mob for Greenburg.

To be honest did anyone really think Dragons would be coming 2nd at this part of the season.

I still reckon kogarah will be close to capacity, but closer to half time

It's a local derby. Both the Sharks and Dragons put requests in for "good" timeslots at the start of the season because it's a bankable gate draw. The games are usually highly competitve and willing. Of course they are ignored by the broadcasters, with the Sharks home game being 6pm on Sunday earlier in the year.
