Great crowd in Melbourne. Sorry for not reading back through the pages but what is expected at the sfs tomorrow?
If it's reasonable, things look ok for the finals crowd wise after the disaster of week one.

Yep nrl doesn't need to try and get afl size crowds, it needs 30k stadiums with 25k people in them. That should be a realistic goal for the game. Sadly you have nine teams playing in Sydney with only one of them likely to be in that situation.

hard not to be jealous of the numbers being touted for Melbourne tomorrow..

Would we ever be able to get say 83,000 sell out to ANZ in a PF to watch Say Tigers v Gold Coast ?

That is not a an equivalent to the game tomorrow.

Richmond's situation is more like Parra, whom I could easily pulling 60-70k on their own in a Prelim against an out of town team.

I thought a fair comparason would be a kind of original 1908 team, from inner city.. with a tiger logo :)

were you around when the bulldogs and parra got 74k in 2009? not 83k, but it was the real grand final that year

Correct. It's as far away from downtown as Penrith is from the Sydney CBD. A bad decision on the same level as our 6pm Friday games.

The relocated LA crowds are just a disaster, another case altogether.

Tbf to the Chargers, they are playing in a 30k seat soccer stadium.

Better atmosphere than the Rams get at the Coliseum

GWS might set a record for smallest away crowd in a prelim. Richmond are a special case though, a huge die-hard supporter base, haven’t won a premiership in almost 40 years. Really no equivalent among other AFL clubs, let alone NRL.

Tigers have won 1 since 1969..

For those who compare us to the NFL, this is what happened in San Francisco today when the NFL scheduled the 49'ers for a 5.30pm Thursday night game.

Clearly they need to introduce the singing of "take me out to the ball game" at half time.

That'll pack em in

This. Smaller stadiums = more big crowds. 30k SFS, 60k ANZ with an intimate mode of 30k.
