In the A-League, the team that wins through to the Grand Final first gets to host it. That has been how they've done it since the league commenced. I think you'll find the rationale is the FFA are not confident at this time to plonk down their GF in a city before knowing who will be in it in case they wind up with two out of town teams as they fear they won't get a sell out crowd if they do.

I understand that but I was replying to someone suggesting the NRL potentially did the same.

The A-League was never a state based comp. NRL and AFL GF locations work because there is huge history of the professional sport in those respective states.

Can work in A-League - not yet anyway

in a 44k stadium, so still 8-9k short of capacity for two teams who only had to travel 1-2 hrs by road max.

Doesn't mean a Adelaide v Brisbane final in Melbourne or a Wellington v Perth final in Sydney would work.

You must missed the part that i wanted to cover the hill at the suburban grounds. Since to the TV cameras always point towards them and the crowd have to put up with elements why not cover the hill.
See link. This sort of coverage is not expensive .

Plus you could terrace the hill to create personal bays. Landscaped (to create flat/standing areas) with artificial grass with seating and leaning-on rails, Couldn't Be Better. You could individualise the seating via numbering. So you sold a ticket to a specific area.

This the way forward, don't play normal premiership NRL games at ANZ. Bring the game back to better faculties at local grounds.

I was moreso addressing the notion the A league would never do it
It worked sort of because the opponent was Newcastle

But what would they have done if the other side was Perth for example
Play it at the SFS , or on the central coast ...

The Dragons will never grow their corporate backing , or their membership base much past where it is playing all their games at suburban grounds

First step to oblivion this is ...

Its crazy that clubs persist with Suburban parks when (as the article says) the club f*cking loses money...

Why are clubs so keen to give charity to middle class fans who cant be bothered leaving theor own suburb.

What if clubs took games to central stadiums where they can make a bit of money, then put that back into junior footy.

The NSW Government bought ANZ. So the old pay to get the teams to play their is no longer. So for about the same money (NSW Venues do charge) they can pay the local instead of NSW Venues.

Still would've been SFS. They won't play it at a venue with 20,060 capacity, particularly when it lacks the corporate facilities necessary for such an event.

I genuinely think the opening of the WSS at Parramatta will be a game-changer. It provides an intermediate venue between the mammoth of ANZ and the intimacy of Pepper/Campbelltown/Belmore etc.

Hopefully teams are willing to play there - I wouldn't be objecting to Canterbury playing games there.

A backwards step, not forward. Their crowds will decrease, other teams who play at anz's crowds will decrease without reciprocal rights for dragons members. Big premiership games should be played at bigger stadiums, not suburban grounds. We should be aiming for 25-30k plus, not 15k.

Agree it should be, though the monumental stuff ups around scheduling remain the main issue (with pricing). The scheduling issue isn't new. Reading RL in the 70s and the League threw away a second 50k attendance at the SCG for Manly v Easts in 1974 - for a regular home and away match - by screwing up the scheduling... Decent read btw but the editing is diabolical.

Not sure how relevant something in the 70's is to now. Competely different landscapes

The point is scheduling was a problem then and it's still a problem now. Yes the landscape has changed, obviously, but the need for the game to properly deal with this issue remains. It has probably got worse under the recent TV deals, not better, and remains a blight on the Commission.

Where did I say 15k crowds, Do stadiums/grounds up to covered 20k. Go on play at normal comp games at ANZ zombie land. A few more years like we have been dishing up Tv ratings will continue to fall. When a game is on ANZ first thing said is "nobody is their, look at all the empty seats.....

Sounds great in theory but where are these clubs going to get between $100-200million to create 20-25k all seater covered stand suburban stadiums? We'll be lucky to see one decent one developed in next decade let alone the 7 currently being used by Sydney clubs.

I think a covered 120m long stand could be costed at less than 35 -40ml. Included is landscaped bays, terraces section seating and railings which should hold over 12k crowd. Combined with the Tv side 'grandstands' that will give you close to 20k. This will provide a experience that will be unique worldwide.
