2017 Crowd Watch

I honestly believe bullshit like the Taumalolo shoulder charge suspension dulls peoples enthusiasm for the game. Not to mention the shit timeslots, overpriced tickets, etc.
They can talk TV ratings all they want but sitting on your arse watching TV isn't fan engagement. Someone making the effort to get out of the house and pay for a ticket is the real indicator, and it has been (at best) stagnant for close to a decade.

Couldn't agree more.
Add to that list, the inconsistency from NRL HQ on absolutely everything, constant negativity about NRL in the newspapers, bullsht atrocity counter, the impression that the NRL do not stand up to their broadcast partners for the benefit of the fan base, the obvious fact that NRL has no interest in large crowds, etc

People are seriously being turned off it as a whole.

Not to mention the fact empty seats will eventually put people off watching at all. I know when there's a shit game at ANZ I'm less likely to watch. The bandwagon effect is strong and when people, especially anyone new to the game, see a big crowd they are more likely to want to be part of the sport and watch the games. When no one can be f**ked attending it's likely to produce the reveres effect. Shit crowds are a PR nightmare for the sport no matter what anyone says and the NRL don't seem to care. You'd think even Nein would wake up to it.

Since the wrestle took over?
There is an obvious correlation when you look at increases to points scored from point in time of the introduction of the 10m rule and increases to crowds and then a halt and small decline since the wrestle took over. The increase in crowd averages stops about 2 years after the wrestle starts and then starts to slowly decline when it really should have kept increasing. Since the wrestle took over there has been a decline on average of one try per game or 292 tries per year.
The solution might be to follow the lead of the NFL and introduce rules that increase passing (and decreases hitups) and ultimately increase try scoring.

We are heading back to 2003/2004 avg crowd level region.

Looking at the trend we basically saw slow but steady increases from 99 (13,937) to 2012 (16,423). Since then we have seen a slow decline down to around 15k and could well, see this year drop down into the 14k's again unless things dramatically improve from what we are seeing in first couple of rounds.

Surely it must be conincidence that since 2012 the game has been run by the ARLC and has had massive increase in spending money? With those two Things it wouldn't be unreasonable to have expected more interest in in the game surely?

Surely you can't seriously be predicting this years average crowd numbers after 2 rounds and 3 games?

I said if they stay as they have begun. Maybe some of the better supported clubs like parra, Newcastle and Souths will win a lot of games and adddress the early slippage, let's see. Early signs are not good but you can't predict weather or which teams will do well which are major crowd Influences in nrl. Thursday and Friday time slots are going to keep the crowds low I think and we'll be lucky to get much mor than last years avg, but time will tell.

The average has also probably gone down since the season become a 24 game season. Solution: move some Sydney games (3 games each) to other locations. Perth, Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Adelaide, Port Moresby, Brisbane.

when you see rubbish calls like that Starling penalty in the game just played it's no surprise people are losing interest and then shit like Tapau's shoulder charge in the first round. Is the NRL serious?

Good work Newcastle fans, the most loyal in the league. Looks like there's a few people in the stands in Penrith but hills are sparse for obvious reasons. I do like how penrith have a few stands in there GA ticketing.
