Realistically you are probably only ever going to get about 40% of your members to attend every game..

Souths have 30k and get about 12k who go...
Swans have 60k members and still get 40% to go.. about 27k
Hawthorn have 80k members and get about 35k to go..
Storm have 20k members and get about 10k to go
Brisbane Lions have like 35k members get about 20k to go..

End of story if we want to average 20k a game, we need clubs to get 40,000 -50000 members..

The name works well. Thursday KNIGHT Football. Newcastle would do better than Sydney teams on Thursday night because it is much easier to get to the ground. People don't dread traffic here. Even from Maitland and Singleton its only an hours smooth drive these days - no bumper to bumper.
The advantage for the Knights fans is being able to know the schedule for the year in advance because they play the same night each fortnight. They can have a routine. Make some traditions out of it. The club gets a free to air game each week increasing sponsorship potential. Maybe they reduce ticket prices as compensation for the loss of Sunday arvo games.

Your idea is based entirely on the name which will have no effect on crowds. The knights draw fans from further out than singleton btw. Even then an hour travelling each way (potentially more depending on traffic and parking) is hardly ideal. Thursday night is a little better than in Sydney but it's still bad for crowds and it's totally unfair on Newcastle to dump it on them. For the fans from further up the valley it hurts even more.

You would also then end up with a situation like Friday night football where one team gets a lion share of the games and in this case it's not even a big club. It could have quite a negative effect on tv ratings.

Surely live crowds is more important.

The AFL doesn't give any f**ks it's 4pm in Perth,6.30 in SA, 6 in QLD.
Hence why no Qlders watch afl But yeah you are right I'd rather see a 7:15 kickoff on Thursday & Friday and scrap the 6pm FRI game altogether

Why the hell do they keep going to that shithole stadium? It's just so absurd that a Bondi and Redfern team would play out there on a Thursday night.

I assume it's government subsidies, but at what point do they just say, you know what - let's just play it at a sensible location.

Apparently it was 10,700. That's the worst crowd between the two teams since 1998. Well done on the scheduling, NRL.

Even the class dimwit is smart enough to copy off the neighbours answers. If the NRL don't know why 7.30 is a better time to start night games why don't they just look at the AFL and copy just to see how it works out. Could be the correct answer.
maybe, but what time does the AFL finish... don't there games go for about 6hrs of sheer boredom.

What makes it even worse is that souths for the last 3 years have played one home game at the SFS. One would think the roosters game would be a perfect fit for this. Instead they choose to take teams like Brisbane and Newcastle.

The test will be to see when the game is played next year, when the nrl take control of the schedule. Still shit effort sydney.

I don't think the NRL can tell teams where to play in the regular season? I think they just give 12 'home' games to each team and where those are played is up to the club

Your talking about the exception rather then the rule.

Im not defending that crap code, but why for example do we need a game starting a 8.15/8.20pm on a Thu for 20 rounds of the year?

If its going to be on a "school" night surely make it start close to 7pm.
then don't people whinge that its too early and not enough time to get out to the stadium after work. Its the f**king national goldilocks league. every excuse dreamed of for every game of the round. Wasnt 6.30 kick off too late for kids according to some on here as well. f**k me dead for a couple of games of the season for your club that might be affected, can't we stretch the kids for a night, or leave work early, or buy an umbrella, or by a hat and fan when its too hot, or whatever. Cost on the other hand....

The merkins have no idea. Since the 2007 rights started along with years of Nine and Fox interfering with the running of the game has had a detrimental effect and it's been showing for years.

The ARLC are spineless but in their defence they have inherited this administration culture from the Super League days

look fair enough to point the finger and blame nrl on schedulling, but its not like the game time was dropped on the clubs last weekend. the draw is out since last December, the clubs know when the games are on. Why don't the clubs do more to promote the games and grow their crowds... they know this is their biggest rivalry but just sit on their hands and do nothing to make it attractive for regulars or casuals. Even if it is a one off effort for this greatest rivalry, do something ffs.

The NRL doesn't care because they have the dollars from TV. What they don't realise is that crap crowds, at horrible times will turn people of the game. Ratings will suffer, and when that happens, the amount of money the TV networks will be willing offer will be less in future. IMO they have totally f**ked this TV deal.

Souths had a real marketing crack one game about 5 years ago against Melbourne Storm..

They hired a team of telemarketers, to call all members, to urge them to get a long to the game..did extra martketing etc..

They got 32,500 from memory against an out of state team..

They said after that it cost them 50k in marketing, and got zero help from NRL.. and wouldnt do it again,,

Now they get 15,000 ave... and get paid to play there no matter the crowd,,

We as a game seriously have no idea...

Why does there need to be football on 4 days over the week anyway? I love the game, but it's just stupid. I feel for anybody in Sydney who wants to try and take their young kids to watch a game.

No idea how much a ticket to anz costs, but surely an extra 22000 people through the gates would easily cover a 50k spend on marketing? Its just f**king laziness from clubs. Why blame the NRL for that, when this example shows that the clubs can get bums on seats if they make the effort.

Last night AFL finished about 20 minutes later, but I think the fans make their decisions more about what time the kick off is. People don't want to wait around for an 8.10pm start.
