Yeah, that's weird. I haven't noticed many chewing gum before?

Years ago in an interview, David Simmons said that David Peachey was so calm on the field that he always has a couple sticks of chewy on him for the game.

First I ever heard of a player doing it.

No choice but to take the two when they hold down on the line on purpose and the refs won't bin them like they should.

Why so pissy about taking the 2? its right in front, the scores are level and you get the ball back. Should always take the 2 in those situations.

Agreed. It's a no brainer.

It should discourage those deliberate penalties, but teams don't take the 2 enough. Even if up by 2 or 4, an easy 2 is worth it if the opposition slows the play and gives away penalties. You'll hold the ball, and push the score to a try/converted try.

If a team scores about 1 in every 3 sets from within the 20, an almost certain 2 is about the same value as going for the try. Most teams don't score anywhere near 1 in every 3 attacking sets, especially against spoiling tactics.
