Cant believe its been almost a year since last year's world cup and we're counting down to the next one.

Looking forward to this one.

7 teams automatically selected (Aus, NZL, Eng, Fiji, Samoa, France, Scotland) with 7 others to qualify, am I right?

The 2008 world here was a success.
The 2013 world cup held in Europe was an even bigger success.
The 2017 world held here will be a giant success.
International football can bring untold riches to our game. Lets grasp the nettle.

Sally Bolton and her team did an amazing job in 2013. Huge Wembley and Old Trafford crowds should look good in the promos. Hope the 2017 final is at a sold out Homebush.

I like that we've got more teams having to qualify, rather than a minority of them. It gives teams more games together, and it lends credibility to the tournament to discuss the teams a side had to beat on their way to the Cup.

Should be a great tournament, games spread across Aus and NZ plus a possible match up in PNG should give it even wider appeal...

This should be the last 14-team WC, then 2021 should expand to 16, 4 groups of 4, with seeding to keep strong teams apart. This is the format that the game could keep for the next century without having to change a thing....

Let's just keep Gold Coast away from the venues. Seems the fans there won't turn up to anything.

Depending on the groups, start Pac Island teams playing against low drawing nations at home (maybe two games to reduce transport costs) so as to showcase the game there, give the tournament some presence in these markets and avoid associated low crowds from say playing Tonga v Scotland in Parramatta.

Why do PNG have to qualify? Is it based on 2013? They lost each game but were in the pool of death.

Probably won't hurt as they will have more games together and hopefully won't get knocked of by a cook island team full of heritage players

But seriously, as has been said b4, teams full of heritage players, no, no I've had enough of that, and quite frankly I don't particularly like inter"national" sport. I would prefer a club World Cup every 4 years. 16 teams, 11 from the SH, 5 from the NH.

Origin played after the GF, and a Yorkshire v Lancashire 3 match series in October and November. The World Cup played in February and March. So less regular season rounds in WC years.

I agree! And it was actually 3 years in the case of Scotland! Danny Brough, just about single-handedly got them there. He'll be 34 by the time it's WC time and may not even be playing. Scotland by 2017 could be a shadow of the team they were in 2014 (when they won qualification).

I think all qualifiers should span two years, and be finalised the year before the WC.
