2018 Crowd Watch

I'm flummaxed by the NRLs control of scheduling and the decisions they are making. They make no sense, unless the whole control of scheduling is just a red herring and TV is still very much in control.

Either the NRL lied to us or they are totally inept. Its hard to figure which.

Better to see a 14k potential crowd drop to 10k on a Thursday than a 20k plus crowd drop to 15k. Sharks v Dragons, Roosters v Souths, these are prime crowd boost games and should never, ever have been put on a Thursday night. Dumb merkins

From a club point of view the whole TV is worth more is another red herring. Yes its worth more whilst you are getting sht crowds and sht membership numbers, but a 30k crowd avg, a 40k membership and the corporate interest in filling boxes in full stadiums with amazing atmospheres is potentially worth a lot more than the current $1.1mill a home game TV pays them. RL has always been lazy, first living of the pokies now the TV deal rather than working hard to generate revenue from its fanbase.
You'd bitch whatever happens, Eeyore. It's in your DNA.

Severe storms rolling across the Illawarra.
Expected to hit town in the next hour or so.

I live about 5 mins from Win Stadium and can confirm, storm clouds looking like they’ll hit in about 30 mins, but only looks like a passing storm

Reckon it’ll be sweet by kick off

Yes staying at the Novotel Northbeach and just had a quick swim at North Wollongong beach and noticed quite a few dark clouds rolling over from the south.

In 2017, the Roosters home crowd average was 15387.
For the 2016/2017 season, Sydney FC's average home crowd was 18099.
And last year they had 14518. Why quote the year before. We had nearly 19000 in 2014. Either way my point wasn’t to prove we have bigger crowds. My point is they were till recently the only club in town. Luke the swans and Waratahs.

I can only assume this is the logic for putting derbies and / or traditional rivalry games on Thursday nights:

The derby games will draw a decent crowd no matter when they are played - so it is better to use them to ensure Thursday night crowds don't regularly end up sub 10k.

I don't agree with the logic BTW but I believe this is the thought process. It is a negative thought process. We whould be scheduling so that Sydney has a 'match of the round' and marketed as a big event so that Sydney pulls 30k crowds every week. There are plenty of combos that could do this given the right scheduling and marketing.

Does anyone know why they stopped doing this in the 1970s? Those crowds were exceptional and singlehandedly dragged the league average up. People didn't have any issue going to a big SCG match every week so just what the f**k happened there?

I quoted 2016/17 for Sydney FC because that's when their season runs. I quoted 2017 for the Roosters as that was the most comparable season. They run over different seasons, remember?

If you want to compare this season, Sydney FC is averaging 14614 (12 games).
The Roosters are averaging 13957 (3 games). I'm sure that will increase.

All good, like I said I’m not trying to compare to them. It’s pointless comparing swans, Waratahs or FC with any of the 9 Sydney clubs. The nrl has an issue with crowds which is affecting all clubs.

No problems. I was just trying to get things factual.
I couldn't agree more with your last point. In saying that, Gallop and the A-League are also having serious problems with crowds.
