Attracting new a customer is anywhere from 5 to 25 times more expensive than retaining an existing customer.

Yes but if you don't spend that money and grow, then you die.

I'm not actually advocating the cutting of any Sydney club BTW. I'm just refuting Stallion's rediculous idea that the Bears should be added back into the NRL. The last thing we need is another Sydney or NSW club for that matter.

Growing the game into new markets is geniused? Allowing the big Sydney clubs to become the super-powers that they deserve to be is geniused? I'm not following.

The Roosters/knights will be an interesting crowd. If this game was played earlier I’d be confident of a big turn out. It has potential but the time slot could burn a few k of spectators.

I will be there looking forward to this grudge match.

Norths are done and should hitch their wagon to Adelaide or the South Island.

I do think a beat was missed in 2005 in that both the Bears and Orcas should have come in as well as the Titans but it is forever ago now. I also think noy having the Bears in the comp hurts Manly. But again, they are now ancient hoistory, and I am not sure why they keep coming up in 2018 crowds thread.

According to Stallion RL is declining and will continue to unless North Sydney are re-admitted to the comp. That's the only reason they keep coming up even though they are ancient history.

You have conveniently missed the very important added factor that the Central Coast along with northern Sydney would be secured and back supporting the code. But don't let logic get in the way of weakening the code in this part of NSW. Three regions and the implosionists still dont understand that this is an essy and logical fix. Secure this certain rugby-league area and the game can grow just as good if not better with the NSW east coast sorted for top flight rugby league with local derbies added to the mix!

I actually agree with you, we should be trying to attract new supporters but we have to be careful not to do that at the expense of existing supporters

I haven’t seen any promotion of the double header at ANZ yet.

3 out of the 4 teams playing are yet to win a game.Hopefully the weather clears up or the crowd could be embarrassing for the Nrl.

What I dont get is all the comparisons with the AFL on this forum.
The AFL mob dont fret about the NRL all the time so why should we worry what the AFL is doing?
Our game is good enough to stand on its own feet and not try and copy everything the AFL does.
What works in Melbourne dosent always work the same in Sydney the two cities have very different sporting cultures and whingeing about it wont change anything.
The NRL needs to find its own ways to get more people involved in the game and not sitting on the couch in front of the TV at home..

Roosters have CC covered - hopefully they move more and more games there as Gosford grows into the future until it is viable to be based there permanently (they'll still get sponsors from Sydney and have an away supporters group that they can sell memberships to).

North Sydney doesn't need the bears - there are 8 and a half other NRL teams in Sydney

Heard ads for the DH quite a few times this week via radio (MMM). Haven’t seen anything though.

They really dont.

Really? Their NSW Cup feeder team is the Wyong Roos and they have taken the area on in terms of junior development in response to the lack of junior numbers in their area in Sydney. The only thing I would like to see is them play an extra game or two up there.

They also tend to have more fans of other teams than the roosters up there.

Because they get good crowds and we need to learn how to do that.
So do what AFL did in the 1990s to build crowds - scrap SOO, close all the suburban club grounds and make all teams play out of two central stadiums. Parra/ANZ/SFS. That would boost NRL crowds for sure. Or would it? Perhaps it would rip the heart out of the game.
It would destroy what makes the game in Sydney great. You can’t have both. RL needs to build on its strengths not it weaknesses.
This is what the NRL can learn from the AFL.
1. Great stadiums that are easy to get to can increase crowds by 50% overnight
2. You must create a big game / blockbuster mentality amongst fans for certain games. There needs to be more sellouts. People need to know that the only way to get a ticket next time is to become member, then keep that cycle going.
If clubs insist on keeping their local stadiums, any money spent should be on improving amenities not increased capacity.

Your logic and support of the Roosters in Central Coast is based on a club neglecting its area in the eastern suburbs. Thats running away from an area that can and has produced juniors into grade. Pretty poor allround solution. Not genuinely good for the code. Runnng away from an area is poor development in my books. The Bears have a locality advantage compared to the Roosters and have a presence in Gosford. Im sure gaining back Bears supporters would be a better option than losing more Roosters fans. And I will jump ship if the Roosters base themselves in Gosford. Pretty sure alot of Rooster fans would do the same or not like it at least?

Surely discussing whether the bears should come back or not should be discussed in the NRL expansion/almost as many nutjobs as the 4 corners sub forum.
