Just on a side note, to look at the differences between the mindset of the 2 codes i had a quick scroll through the AFL forums, not one mention of scheduling, issues getting to the ground, ticket prices etc. All the talk is about being at the game on Thursday, everyone is comparing where they are sitting and are generally pumped to be going to the game.
This is obviously a culture that the AFL has developed over a long period of time and is something the NRL needs to strive for in the future.

Depends on your definition of Northern Sydney. IMO, a large part of North Shore, a minor percentage of the Hills and Northern suburbs(Between Epping and Hornsby) have some Union and AFL support. However, majority of the kids are into RL.

AFL exists, there are junior clubs around here. However, it's not beating RL by a long mile.

IMO the best thing AFL has done is getting the "neutrals" excited. That culture doesn't exist in RL at all.

Our f**kwit club representatives made their power plays, and are going to get it.

Just because the dot point list that Dave Smith set out wasn't met doesn't mean shit.

Yeh not meeting any of your major targets in a strat plan is no cause for concern what so ever lol. Are you John Grant?

Regardless of your thoughts on the game, the fact they are expecting a round 1 crowd aggregate that will beat the first three rounds of NRL combined says something to how their fans are engaged with the game. Call it 'brainwashing' or a 'cult', it is still impressive. There is nothing wrong with recognising where others are doing something well and aim to replicate or better that position. The question is what do the NRL do well? We need to have multiple answers to that question that other codes can be envious of. SOO is an obvious example but we need more sustainable results that shows progression (i.e. memberships) from seemingly static performance measures in recent years.

This is so true.
I have a cousin, a girl in her 50's now, who grew up in Granville and later on, Greysteynes.
Absolutely hated sport all her life. She was an arty farty snob.
Following any sport would have been number 100 on her list of favourite things to do. Completely despised it.
Anyhow, she travelled, met a Melburnian while in Paris, eventually moved to Melbourne with him and now is as big as a Geelong fan as you would ever meet. Never misses a game. Brainwashed? Perhaps. Stupid? Yes. Enveloped by the culture? Definitely.
Sydney is very blasé when it comes to sport. Take it or leave it.
Victorians have always had a point to prove to the rest of the world because of the chip on their shoulder. They use their stupid sport to prove it.

ROFL, lol, bhaha. Are you f**king geniused? (rhetorical question.)

The structure of the commission shouldn't be thrown out of the windows just because some KPIs weren't met.

While I agree that a CC team *could* be a good idea, it's fairly evident that the region would struggle to properly support a team long-term. The corporate support in particular isn't strong when you factor in the proximity to Newcastle and Sydney - and in turn that would make it difficult to attract top-quality talent

Id suggest if the Bears went about it the right way, the very influential North Sydney CBD businesses may be decent sponsors. The Bears are still popular to those that have brushed the code due to their exiting. Think its a fair call!

Norths are done and should hitch their wagon to Adelaide or the South Island.

I do think a beat was missed in 2005 in that both the Bears and Orcas should have come in as well as the Titans but it is forever ago now. I also think noy having the Bears in the comp hurts Manly. But again, they are now ancient hoistory, and I am not sure why they keep coming up in 2018 crowds thread.

This was tried. The Coast either will have a team or reject it - they won't share with the North Shore.

Not exactly. It was a sham of a joint venture which had no soul. The Bears deserve their place in the sun on the Central Coast. You seriously dont think the mishmash of the Northern Eagles was going to attract the hearts and minds of the Central Coast? It was doomed just like the merged franchise from the start. My gut feel is the Central Coast would take on the Bears. They have an underdog/ripped off status that may shine to an area that will support a committed team along with the bonus of the hibernating North Sydney fans and sponsors. Shoring up the NSW eastern seaboard would be a wise move into the future for the NRL.

The bears got a raw deal, but it’s honestly over now, at least in NSW.

There’s simply too many teams already in this space, the game is at a crossroads and must expand beyond its traditional areas. We can’t afford to think small anymore.

Whilst I agree, the biggest reason is the ease in getting to games. The MCG is in the middle of the faking city and accessible from anywhere. People go after work as a social event.
