DC is right that 4 or 5 Sydney teams getting 20000 out of Parramatta, ANZ and SFS be great but looking at the impressive Newton event then there is a need for suburban RL but maybe on a semi-pro league 2nd tier.

ok
that explains bulldog fans to an extent
but the Balmain area is literally 15 minutes to the east of homebush , & their members got in for free & their season was on the line against a traditional opponent
yet no one could be bothered going
its a lot more serious then an unpopular venue & one team out of form , 9865 for 2 clubs in the same city that have 40000 members between them ...which more like 6500... is not acceptable under any circumstances at any ground

There are approx 0 Rugby League fans in Balmain.

so , we've got 2 games at ANZ next round that may challenge that all time record low attendance at the venue of 5,053

the Bulldogs V Brisbane on Thursday night
& Parramatta V the Titans on Saturday evening

it could get very , very ugly

Approx zero Rugby League fans live in the inner west then.

The changing demographics and the tide of gentrification have rendered this area non-league country.

So how do you explain the 10k that showed up at Henson Park yesterday for a reserve grade match?

Yes the demographics have changed but there’s still a lot of interest in rugby league- however it’s a hipster market. Shiny corporate all seater stadiums with mega brewery beers in plastic cups and $8 Vilis pies do not appeal and this is symptomatic of sydney at large. Sydney people want a cool venue, evolved food and beverage options and to be able to bring the kids and doggos.

The NRL just don’t get it.

so where did the 17K against the Titans at Leichardt a few weeks ago come from
Campbelltown ?

Mostly the diaspora of supporters from across the metro area.

Agree a wonderful event and just the kind of thing needed to reignite interest in the game in the area.
More marketing like this and we'll earn some converts from those event goers in what is, in demographic terms, a new market.

Fox journalists expecting 20k to SFS, if so that is below par in my opinion. Not angry but a shame, game deserves 27-30k.

It deserves a full house. It's one of the biggest games of the season between 2 top 4 Sydney sides battling to remain in the 4. They also have a big rivalry built up from the ANZAC day matches.

Obviously a sellout is unrealistic but 20K is well below par. Any less than 25K is a huge disappointment IMO.

Of all the lame ass excuses used for shit crowds on this forum this game has basically none. Sunday arvo, great weather, 2 in form teams with plenty to play for, existing rivalry, not being played at ANZ, no real
competition etc. This game should have been hyped as the huge matchup it is. We still constantly fail in this area and could really learn from how the A league and AFL in particular build up their big matches.

Surely it will easily pass 20K (though what fox journalists are expecting should be taken with a grain of salt). Have the clubs or NRL given any expectations for the game?
