Under 5,000 at ANZ? I have never seen it that bad

Lowest recorded crowd was 5,053 for Souths v Penrith in 2007. I was at that game - it had been raining non-stop for days, hence the low crowd. It had the atmosphere of 1/10th that number.

why would it kill all support in Sydney if 5 teams survive , & TV is becoming an outdated irrelevant medium
opening up new markets will see the game grow , we need to move forward as a sport.
Sorry I misread you post, I read that as 4 new sydney franchises to replace the current 9. The problem remains that we can't afford to chase supporters away from our game.

TV an outdated and irrelevant medium lol. Yes the model of television we have in Australia is coming to an end, but getting people to watch the game at home will always be the biggest income we have as a sport, how that is consumed will change but it will always be where our $ come from.

If you want to discuss irrelevance, what does Canberra bring to the competition? Its not crowds, its not ratings, its not success, so i'm not really sure. In saying that I would never take Canberra's team away because when you forcibly take people's teams you just drive them from the game and we can not afford to be chasing any supporters away.

Two of the best supported clubs in the comp muster a Friday night crowd that would embarass GWS. Good grief.

Which excuse are we using this week? It's not the timeslot or weather, geography is OK for those two clubs so must be ticket and beer prices?

The Raiders hold the sthn line against the AFL, unlike a lot of Sydney clubs who do essentially nothing to develop players within their own district
The Raiders run rugby league in the area & employ a full time staff to do so & we fight the fight hard. Union & AFL are being held at bay by our club
Without the Raiders most of the Monaro district would have been over run with bumbling clowns in singlets & tight shorts years ago

So yeah
We're a lot more important than most people think

It looks like Bulldogs fans have given up on them for this year at least.

If your team is performing like busteds you're not going to travel to a shit ground to watch them.

ok
that explains bulldog fans to an extent
but the Balmain area is literally 15 minutes to the east of homebush , & their members got in for free & their season was on the line against a traditional opponent
yet no one could be bothered going
its a lot more serious then an unpopular venue & one team out of form , 9865 for 2 clubs in the same city that have 40000 members between them ...which more like 6500... is not acceptable under any circumstances at any ground

If we are talking about TV ciewers then the stadiums we play out of is irrelevant. Whether a game is in suburban Sydney or the other side of the country, it all looks the same from the couch...

Beyond that, the expansion teams are actually more valuable for TV numbers than any Sydney team. New teams in Perth, Brisbane, NZ would be far more valuable than anything we lost by dropping a suburban Sydney team.

As for what the Raiders bring to the comp, they give us access to fans in areas that would otherwise get no NRL. If you take away one Sydney team, there are still 8 more within an hours travel.

There has been no hype or talk of a big crowd at SFS tomorrow. I predict 17-18k
if it ends up that bad , its proving once again
Sydney is in the too hard basket for many reasons least of all its soulless inhabitants who can't be coaxed out of their living rooms for almost any reason
Their impotence when it comes to their favourite sport is becoming alarming

is it the right day .. yes
is the weather going to be ok... yes
is it a good contest in prospect ... yes , all top 4, potential GF preview , should be a belter
is the venue ok , yes the SFS is a darn good place to watch RL albeit a little hard to get to but much easier on a Sunday

its Sydneysiders & their limp dick attitude to anything that requires effort

meanwhile the AFL has their own version of our game tomorrow , today at the MCG, & they're expecting a lazy 90,000
yeah they get a little too excited too easily down there , but IDK what the NRL needs to do to get Sydneysiders to get off their asses

I think I was at that game. Was it on an evening? They gave me a ticket at the gate to get in for free lol

Weirdly they play baseball games on a weekday during the week and still get a crowd in Chicago!

Whilst that may be true for the governing body, certain clubs in my city earn twice as much from game day and memberships than they do tv.

There is a number of factors that lead to poor NRL crowds, especially here in Sydney. Some of which that some league fans may not even want to admit. One reason, as I have mentioned a number of times is that Sydney has too many teams playing out of it. Solve that and you will be heading in the right direction.

Please tell me how getting rid of any of the teams in Sydney will increase crowds in Sydney?

You will if you’re committed. I followed my club through years of relegation to the third division and administration. Makes the good times all the sweeter! To bail on them half way through the year because they are a bit sht doesn’t say much about level of the fans., especially if you’ve already paid to go through a season membership!
