The hand wringing is utterly painful. It got 25k to a Week 1 final - 4k more than last year (SYD v BRI), and more than 1k ahead of SYD v PEN in 2014.

The 17k for the Penrith game was probably around expectation given the circumstances.

Today will be huge, next Friday will get 25-30k as will Souths' home final (if not more) on Saturday, and the prelims will be massive as well.

Hoping for a St George win today so that we can hopefully get a 40,000+ crowd next week at ANZ.

Sharks and Penrith will get 25,000 like last nights match as Allianz. Maybe?

...saying AFL has a game on at the same time is f**king hilarious

Don’t they pretty always have a game on at the same time?

Is there always an AFL game being played somewhere in Australia at the same time as the storm are playing? Almost certainly.

We're not talking about any game though. We're talking about a crowd of 90K+ at the MCG with over 500K watching in Melbourne alone.

Whilst the storm crowd was very disappointing it was no worse than what Sydney was able to achieve despite being RL heartland.

and Vicderpians say Melboring is the sporting capital of the world

It is..... I don't even live there but when i go there it's pretty awesome to be in the CBD, Richmond around Ammi park precinct/Mcg when there is NRL and AFL on.

Then there is the soccer, tennis and Grand Prix etc. It's pretty impressive how they get behind sports.

big hit!

how is this? sydney metro teams should be getting 30k minimum.

and the NRL taking the piss as usual with their scheduled start times vs actual start times. PEN vs NZW started 12 mins after the scheduled start time.

they expect the players to be professional with their moral outrage, yet the NRL and broadcast partners can't even adhere to any professional standards we expect from them.

watch an EPL, UEFA Champions League, NFL, etc match. they start on the second of the scheduled start time, barring any extraordinary incidents. their crowds and broadcasts are better too, and they don't have shit merkins commentating games.

C9 and News Ltd. Been holding the game back for 3 decades.

it isn't otherwise AAMI would be sold out
I know your trolling but lets go with this

You do know Rugby League isn't the only sport don't you? You said "sporting capital" not "rugby league capital"
here is this week for example, both cities with 3 games:
Melbourne - 200,519 people attending sport
Sydney - 82,106 people attending sport

And here is all of the regular fixtures I can think of:
NRL
AFL
cricket
A-league
rugby
Australian F1 GP
Australian Moto GP
Melbourne 400 Supercars
Australian Open Tennis
Ripcurl Pro Bells
Melbourne Cup/Spring Racing Carnival

Sporting capital of the world is probably debatable, but Melbourne is the sporting capital of Australia no questions asked

Will be massive if st George win but still pretty good if broncos win. Not sure about next Friday though. Being outnumbered by opposition fans from another country is embarrassing no matter what way you look at it.

I thought it was a decent effort by sharks fans. They sure make some noise. Hopefully they can all back up for another week, as they’re record against Penrith is very good.

Any updates on the Brisbane crowd tonight?
Also are the WNRL crowds counted seperately or are they just counted as curtin raisers?
