Origin stand alone weekend. I’d say its a dipping of the toes in the water so to speak.
Why not give Fiji/Tonga/PNG/ NZ a chance to do something glorious on that weekend

. . . as Different Rabbit beat me to saying

I am sick and tired of playing the same team twice so close together, Roosters play the Bulldogs in round 2 and round 7 and the Warriors round 4 and round 10. The upside 4 of the first 6 games are home games at Allianz.
And yet we don't play the Eels until rnd 26.

Go figure.

f**king morons.

Yeah, this is a bad mistake imo. They could easily have scheduled in something like Samoa v Tonga and Fiji v PNG or even a one off NZ v England test on that weekend. Could even have had some sort of international nines tournament or something.

It's just a waste of a good chance to showcase the game.

100% should put the Nines in there. By the time the next TV deal is finalised, there's no reason we can't fill 3 standalone Origin weekends with football considering we could schedule Women's Origin / Under 20's Origin / Nines / Samoa v Tonga / Fiji v PNG / NZ v England / Nines weekend / Prime Minister's 13 game.

Should only be one game of Origin played each year . . . that way Qld/NSW would still be level pegging

They haven't not scheduled those yet.

The Pacific Tests on the rep weekend weren't confirmed til just before the season this year from memory - plenty of time for them to announce what else is happening that weekend.

Given that every team plays every other team at least once in the year, I don't understand why the NRL can't have a draw where no two teams double up in the first 15 rounds? Why not make it so every team plays every other team for the first 15 and then you play teams for the second time after that? This business of having some teams playing the same side twice inside the first five or six rounds is just silly.

Winners -
Eels get the best draw for crowds.
Panthers a lot more FTA.
Sydney crowds in general have been favoured.
The Double Headers

Losers -
Seriously Thursday nights for the Broncs.
Brisbane might average under 30K in 18’.
Newcastle lumped with a lot of 6FRI.

I'll admit it, the roosters have a very favourable draw next season on face value

They play 7 of this year's bottom 8 twice and only 2 of the top 8 with the Broncos being the only top 4 side we play twice. The other top 8 team we play twice is Manly

Additionally, they don't leave Sydney until round 10 when they have back to back games in NZ/Brisbane and then they only leave NSW once for the rest of the season (I count Canberra as NSW for travel purposes)

No game in Melbourne, no game in Townsville

Wow.

Having been on the ass end of a tough draw in recent years, I sympathise for other teams. They really need to come up with a better methodology where everyone plays everyone else home and away X amount of times over Y years. There will still be tougher and easier draws but at least there will be a system in place to limit it.

Broncos average crowds will go up next season with 3 Sunday games and 1 Saturday game. There's a lot of people who have stopped going to games because they are all either thursday or friday night, the broncos could now sell a weekend membership package covering those 4 games.
