I'd like to see the data. Is it enough disparity to justify the huge difference in appearances?

Secondly why are the NRL scheduling games for TV ratings? It's not their concern.

Look it up if you want to prove something.

Because they sell tv rights... if we rate like the a league we get a league money.

Based on that logic the Broncos on every FNF game, and Souths every Sunday game then.

More likely it's favoritism and bias as the logic is faulty because the Knights actually play those so called "high rating" teams throughout the season

TV ratings not the NRL's concern?

It's where the bulk of their money comes from. It's wilfully naive to suggest otherwise lol

So the NRL still don't have control of the schedule?

And your defence of the NRL admin falls flat when you see them schedule the GF replay against the AFL for example.

Explain how playing them on fta and getting smaller ratings adds more value to the game.
Because giving them decent exposure helps them maintain their value or increase it? To which they have a great value to the game beyond ratings.

Exhibit A. North Queensland didn't have a FTA game for a decade because we "didn't rate well".

Since 2005 they have been one of the consistently highest rating teams on STV and now FTA.

Cowboys don’t have the largest fan base but they rate well. Why do you think that is. Honest question

Because they do have a large fanbase and I think people confuse actual fanbase with "potential" fanbase.

Being in a big city doesn't automatically mean large fan base.

The NRL have control but they're not just going to mandate in one season a sweeping change to the schedule that alienates the broadcasters. Those ones that pay the bills - their input needs consideration.

This. The whole they rate well cause they are a big Sydney or Brisbane club is bullshit. The people want the best games on free to air. Those that wanna watch their team every week will get Fox.

I know there are reason why it changed but if they picked the 2 best matches if the round 4 weeks out and gave the games based on form they would kill the ratings now.

It would also give the so called smaller clubs a chance to get exposure based on form.

There is zero change though. Channel 9 and Fox may as well still be picking the games. It is bullshit.

Good old confirmation bias.

Because your team isn't affected by the change, the change didn't happen lol.

The spread of FTA games 2017 to 2018 is vastly changed. That's a fact, just sucks for you the Knights didn't get to be part of that.

ROFLMAO. That is exactly what Channel 9 argued when the NRL first moved to fixing the dates of the first 20 rounds of the comp. Yet when they had that power under the old model, they would still ick games like "Wests Tigers v Canterbury" even if one or both teams were: (a) playing poorly; and/or (b) out of finals contention.

Fact is virtually every other professional sport in the world has a fixed draw. Having it only done 4-6 weeks out is complete amateur hour. If sporting bodies like the English Premier League, Spain's La Liga, the NFL and NBA in the USA can do it, so why should the NRL do something inferior?

I don't know much about La Liga, NFL and the like, but the Premier League do fixture changes throughout the season. For most rounds, the games are all scheduled Saturday 3pm, then about a month or two out, the governing body issues TV picks which moves usually 4-5 of the matches to alternate slots for various broadcasters.

e.g. Initial listing:
Sat 3pm
Arsenal v Bournemouth
Brighton v Chelsea
Crystal Palace v Everton
Liverpool v West Ham
Man Utd v Man City
West Brom v Newcastle
Tottenham v Huddersfield
Stoke v Southampton
Burnley v Leicester
Watford v Swansea

One month out, TV picks done:
Sat 12:15pm
Liverpool v West Ham
Sat 3pm
Arsenal v Bournemouth
Brighton v Chelsea
Crystal Palace v Everton
Tottenham v Huddersfield
Burnley v Leicester
Watford v Swansea
Sat 5:30pm
Man Utd v Man City
Sun 3:30pm
Stoke v Southampton
Sun 7pm
West Brom v Newcastle

NFL has a flexible schedule arrangement where a Sunday match can be moved from it's scheduled afternoon kick off to the nationally televised prime time slot on Sunday night, this can only happen from week 5 onwards.

Otherwise games do not change days afaik.
