2018 Grand Final Entertainment

There's always that argument that AFL wins the entertainment cause they have bigger names than ours. Wait and see what happens on the day.

I mean I dont know if their acts would be better live.

Gangs of Youth are apparently pretty good live. So I'm not gonna be critical of the NRL. Probably a good choice.

I was a little bit critical of when they got Macklemore but after seeing him live on the night I didnt seem to mind it, even if I'm not a fan of his music.

The nrl entertainment is better most years imo. Last year both were great, but ours is normally superior. Our whole day is superior, 3 games, big build up into the main game.

Yes he did
https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp...-issues-emotional-plea-during-nrl-grand-final

He changed lyrics
He made a statement after directed at the impending gay vote.
The rainbow coloured fireworks and balloons looked a lot like a statement to me.

I’ve got nothing against gay people
Ive gig two mates who are gay
I’ve voted yes for gay marriage.

It was a statement.
It was unnecessary .
There was no change to the lyrics of the song. Saying the words "equality for all" at the end of the song is not 'changing the lyrics'.

Facts:
- Macklemore was locked in before the postal vote became a thing.
- Tony Abbott and other no campaigners highlighted it as an issue before it became such a stupid furore.
- He likely reacted to that.

I don't see how it was in any way unnecessary and I don't understand why it's so troublesome if you have mates, voted yes etc. Chances are the ridiculous over the top opposition from the No camp encouraged the rainbow fireworks and equality messages at the end.

I'm interested in your take on these:
- The Killers sung Midnight Oil's Forgotten Years at the AFL Grand Final just 24 hours before Mackelmore's performance. Plenty of angry lyrics about Aboriginal displacement and invasion...
- Cold Chisel's Khe Sanh in 2015 - Vietnam War
- Village People at the 1991 GF performing YMCA
- John Williamson's 1989 GF rendition of Rip Rip Woodchip

It's been a part of grand final entertainment for a long time, on and off over the years. I don't get why last year's was an issue.

Have another go
From my link that you didn’t read properly.

the rapper did slightly alter the lyrics in the third verse of Same Love to call for “the country” to be united by law, and closed out the performance with a call for “equal

Also
Forgotten years is about world war 2 you goose.

So in summary, you're ok with the other songs but not this one?

OK with the Living End in 2016 singing Prisoner of Society?

Yep cool. Gotcha

No no your issue is with the political statement and you're only singling out macklemore... When it's plain to see there's been plenty over the years.

If you support the cause I don't understand why it's in any way an issue. Especially one you're so upset about some 365 days later...

Macklemore was great and I loved that the NRL, an important part of Australian community and society, weren't afraid of the old white fellows in the media and in Canberra to make a statement about a social justice issue. Was there and it was a great pre match event that got the place buzzing. NRL did a great job the whole event and felt a special occasion.

I actually liked the macklemore show because of what it represented. Good on the NRL.

More lies.

Get back to explaining to me where he didn’t change the lyrics..,even though I proved he did.

...and how forgotten years is about the Aboriginals
Haha

Both wrong
That was some funny shit from the forums biggest know all.

Killers nailed it.
It horses for courses at a Grand final.
Not a f**king soap box. IMO

Cold chisel did keh Sahn
Haha
Yeah
Just like every other gig they’ve played for the last forty years.
It’s there most famous song
Their most popular song.
But you reckon it was a political statement on the day?
Hahahahaha

I couldn’t give a shit about the lyrical content of Mackelmore, but at the stadium where I was sitting up in the top eastern, the sound was a f**king mess. It was just a wall of noise and it was horrid.

In 2015 i was in the corporate area of the eastern and whilst I am no fan of Chisel, they absolutley f**king killed it. I thoroughly enjoyed their set and the sound was excellent.

Call me un-australian but I’ve always thought that Barnesys voice was rubbish, Ian Moss however is very good.

The NRL's stance wasn't a political statement. It was a social justice statement. Just like Indigenous and women in league round every year. Equality should never be a political position, but a social expectation.

All that pressing enter for each brain fart and you still didn't answer any questions.

Good stuff. You keep raging a year on about something you claim not to care about and support but... don't?

Yeah cool

So musicians shouldn't make a statement? Most of the best music is about making a statement about particular issues.
