Doesn't look like the excitement of new owners at GC has helped and Warriors fans have finally had enough!

Its a bit hard with the increases because clubs may have changed over roll over dates, but yes presuming roll over dates are same as 2017 its great to see 50% having an increase of some level at this stage in proceedings and especially the big increase at our only non heartland club

lots of clubs haven't updated so we'd be ahead of the 199K listed
but it may have been the case this time last year too , so we're still probably only 5K with change ahead of 2017

You said the same thing last year, trying to run along with imaginary figures because clubs weren't updating in accordance with your schedule. lol

Obviously people are still buying memberships during this period but with most clubs (if not all) shutting their offices, only a handful will remain updated. Stop being a knob jockey like last year and just wait for figures.

Would be interesting to see if growth in Memberships converts to crowd number growth or if the numbers merely point to being more an upfront revenue stream for the clubs.

Conversion rates of membership to crowds are better than the AFL but the volume of both is obviously where the gap lays. NRL has started from a fair way back in being membership sellers, so as the volume grows, the impact will hopefully be seen in other aligned areas.

With more investment in memberships and engaging supporters to be more committal, converting that into bums on seats should be assessed as it has a number of flow on effects for the clubs and the game. You would hope to get a conversion above 40% or maintain the current percentage and get that volume growing at a more aggressive rate.

Whilst being a fantastic way for clubs to be more self sufficient financially, memberships attention should go beyond taking supporter funds. Do you get them going to your games? Wonder how many clubs would fall above and below the median conversion rate...

Conversion rates
2017
NRL

Average weekly crowd aggregate - 120k
Closing membership figure - 309k
Conversion % - 39%

2017 AFL

Average weekly crowd aggregate - 317k
Closing membership figure - 907k
Conversion % - 35%

What that shows to me is that AFL clubs are far better at selling non-ticketed memberships. In the NRL, only really the Rabbitohs truly get this.

The conversion percentages aren't too far apart. The mix between the two codes is either similar or if the NRL sell more ticketed memberships, then that points to lack of engagement to get them at the games, of which should be assessed. With crowds getting a fair bit of focus, growing ticketed memberships would be better overall than non-ticketed or club donations.

Whilst a 'nice to have', non ticketed members really don't add anything but paying for another wrestling coach or masseuse.

Interesting stats, thanks for posting. I guess what it shows is it would be foolish to expect a much bigger % of the current NRL membership base to convert to full members and attend games. Clearly significant growth overall is the only way we will see a significant rise in attendances.

It does appear that way, hence why you have to look beyond one set of numbers and assess the impact using linked measures. As memberships become more engrained into the average NRL supporter you can get a better idea as to how that influences crowd numbers across all teams with each passing year.
