I remember when Lyon wasn't interested in playing representative footy, Tallis was on one of the sports shows saying that this is why the Blues will never be anything like the Maroons because QLD'ers always show up and didn't give up their spot no matter what. Maybe Smith can see that the Maroons aren't at full strength now and that he won't be able to get away with what he was since the crackdown on his tactics.

He'll be 35 by the end of the Origin series and plays 80 minutes in the middle of the field. That's no mean feat in club football, let alone IN ORIGIN. But yeah, he's a coward.

Firstly its Vaughan, not ‘Vaughn’.
Secondly, Vaughan is a beast. Big motor, decent footwork & can offload along with a high defensive work rate.
Finally, try watching games that involve teams other than Brisbane. You’d be surprised with what you can learn.

Watching Cronk in particular back up in defence and get his body behind the ball time and again. The merkin had premierships taken off him, but he didn't lose an origin series and he kept putting in the effort.

Players either have the drive, or they don't.
