I suppose you can point to where I said they want less money

Don't be so precious.

You quoted a bloke saying "I can see the players rejecting the money and asking for less...."

So I was simply pointing out after you had informed that they rejected it, that they sure as f*ck were not rejecting it asking for said less money.

You OK?

I don't think anyone thinks that. I quoted a guy who missed the whole point of my post

Prendergast was on league life last night. Seemed a bit of a weasel, the ladies gave it to him about the state of the players dress at the meeting and the fans reaction to player greed. If I hear one more time, "it's a short career and they put their body on the line" I'll throw something at the tv. These are mostly twenty something's earning significant money for playing a game. There's not much sympathy when you see what police go through for a fraction of the pay, or dr's and nurses that are actually saving people's lives.

He did say he expected a deal to be done in next two weeks.

Pity I didn't watch League Life yesterday as their main guest was Ian Pendergast from the RLPA. IT may have proved insightful viewing to know what the RLPA's issues are directly without hearing it filtered via the written press.

They want 30% of the games fixed revenue, which according to Prendergast will be $3.3bn over 5 years or $660m p.a. So the players want $198m of the games annual turnover going to them, and they are only open to permitting NRL access to phone & bank records if they get that ~30%.

It's ironic they keep throwing up cricket & AFL as examples of the CBA arrangements they want, while ignoring the parts they don't like, like access to player phone & bank records, permitted under both cricket & AFL CBA's.

I look at it in a completely different way. Some are earning significant money, many are not. They are generating an enormous amount of money for the NRL. The huge TV rights are not paid because of the administrators managing or mismanaging the game. The fans don't watch the game on tv or at the ground because of the administrators, it is the players who provide the entertainment. No players, no revenue.

I hate it when people start comparing players to normal workers, it makes no sense. It is a reality that the entertainment providers should be compensated properly, it is a reality that their careers are relatively short. It is a reality that they are putting their bodies through the sort of punishment which is likely to lead to suffering of all sorts of ailments for the rest of their lives. If they are lucky it will just be bung knees or shoulders, for the less fortunate like James McManus it is headaches, dizziness and maybe depression. Then we have the least fortunate like Alex McKinnon in a wheel chair.

I realize people in many professions have the potential for injury or even death. You do read about guys on worksites or police etc who carry this unfortunate risk. Many will be lucky and avoid this. Pretty much every single NRL player will go through this for the rest of the lives to some degree once they are retired. All this for our entertainment. Remember these are the elite of the game, just like the elite doctors, lawyers, actors etc all are paid a premium, why compare these to the average worker? Compare the best footballers salaries against the average nurse, doctor, bricklayer etc. Where is the logic in that?
Perhaps those whinging about the players earning more would rather sit down and watch hacks like John Grant and Todd Greenberg pen pushing all day than watch the players.

As a aside how much does the tax man get from the TV deal ?

And I've got no problem them getting whatever they can get. Just don't cry poor or lay claim to how hard done to you are. Fcking twenty three year olds, mostly without a qualification or brains to their name. It's not like the alternative employment opportunities for most of them are better!
The people you are comparing to at top of their professional trees have often spent years in study and an entire lifetime getting there, not three or four years in Jnrs.

Is this thing still undecided?

Considering the new NRL financial year starts in a few days

Comparing league players to police, doctors and nurses who are paid for by tax dollars is completely f**ken stupid.

Still not decided

Now the elite players want a slice of all other revenue

Less for grass roots football or reserve/feeder systems

I have read a couple articles about Nrl and afl clubs buying teams in other codes. Seems innocent enough. Netball is the main sport I’m talking about. Now stay with me. Storm are affiliated with Sunshine Coast, gws with gws team, Collingwood etc. not such a issue with storm and lightning but the other set ups could become a issue. The afl and Nrl now both have a football dept cap. Could it be possible that there can be highly paid netball physios/trainers and lowly paid physios/trainers in the afl/Nrl? Could this become a issue in the future? Hmmmm

Doubt it, the off-field cap will probably be somewhere close to what the top teams are already spending which just ensures it doesn't blow out with the new TV deal.

Successful clubs generally have successful management and won't have a problem getting efficiency out of what they already have.

Rugby League really is a f**king meat head sport at times

Australian Rules Football will eat us alive if we carry on the same way
The revenue the game generates is being distributed as an upside down pyramid - it's all top heavy

The AFL targets schools and junior football - basically getting everyone playing the game, even if they're never going to become players - they don't care. They just want people to love them and will do all they can to win the hearts and minds of kids. They play the long game.

In the meantime, we're turning a few players into multi millionaires and saying "those dudes are f**king loaded, while you're poor - worship them, love us"

I wonder how long it will be before the majority say "go f**k yourselfs, you selfish f**king twats"

You’d think so but when you see what epl players earn and how working class folk still worship them it would seem there is no logical response to meatheads getting paid ten times what thenavg bloke earns for just playing a game well.
