Tonight is the make or break day of this series. Who ever wins the day will win the series and the Ashes.

Nah. England still plenty of work to do to win the series even if they jag a win here. Aust still in the box seat at 1-1 with Smith to cone back.

So you guys want to give up at 1-1 with the guy has scored 5 hundreds in his last 7 ashes tests to come back into the side. Soft as.

Anyway it’ll be 2-0 so by about midnight tonight so it’s irrelevant.

7 good balls is all we need. Take it one ball at time
If we add 2/20 to their score they're stuffed.
The closer Root gets to a hundred the more likely he is to get out.

I think that covers it.

With the increasing workload our fast bowlers have had to take on, if I were in Justin Langer's situation, all the players in the lineup who are capable of bowling part-time:

Warner (leg spin)
Khawaja (medium pace)
Labuschagne (leg spin)
Head (off spin)
Wade (medium pace)

I'd have them practising their bowling in the nets this morning as backup, just incase one of Cummins/Pattinson/Hazlewood breaks down with injury during a match like what happened to James Anderson in the first test.

England 2.90 to win, not a bad bet

I hope we win and i'll be cheering for us but there's no doubt it was hard work yesterday, Pattinson is the key for mine, he needs to be half a metre fuller, too much back of a length back foot defensive shots for my liking

If they see off the Hazlewood/Cummins initial new ball spell, we're in trouble

How many times has a team batting 4th chasing 350+ looked like they might be in with a shot, only to come up short - often well short?

The fact is, chasing anything but a piss weak total in the 4th innings is a difficult task in Test Cricket - on any ground and against just about any opposition. Over 350? You’re almost certainly cooked.

The target we set is heaps, but if England manage to chase it down, then hats off to the arsey bastards. You’d be better off putting your money on a Broncs/Parra Grand Final and Darius getting the Churchill.

Lol, nothing 'soft' about it, just being realistic. Smithy's going to fail at some point, and to lose after rolling a side for 67 and having them 2/15...
That's enough to derail a good side, let alone a team as limited as ours in the batting stakes. These two at the crease will likely decide it, and if Lyon can build pressure and actually take some wickets, it should be enough. But it'll come down to us getting a few before lunch. If not, poms can definitely chase this imo.

You’re forgetting how rubbish the poms are. They have about 2 decent batsmen and same with their bowling. The rest are completely anonymous.

We have much better bowling and better batting too with Smith back. We would have taken 1-1 after 3 matches at the start of the series. We still only have to win one match to take the ashes if we lose tonight. We won’t lose tonight, however.

one caveat. Typically you’re chasing late day 4 & day 5.

Hopefully we see some inconsistent bounce today.

They are rubbish, they are cannon fodder.. outside of England.

You get them in England much like us here in Australia, they're very hard to beat.

Historically, you're right, I didn't place that bet because there is every chance they lose Root or Stokes and that's all she wrote, these 2 are their best bats.

If they occupy the crease for any amount of time though, it's game on.

For sure. Can't see us wasting the new ball though, so I'd surprised if they both hang around long enough. As I said though, fair play if they can pull it off.

Australia has a notorious history of struggling to chase sub-200 4th innings targets: both in Australia and overseas.
