I dunno.

Merrin and Tamou would be good to get rid of.
We go on about them all the time because we're paying overs for them and but realistically looking at it do we have two players better them? A case could be made for Jack Hetherington (I'd disagree at this point in time) but who else is better? Kaide Ellis, Nick Lui Toso? Tim Grant? I don't think any of them are at all.

Why would we pay top dollar for Nathan? If we landed Ivan we have everything Nathan wants.

His mates are here. His dad would be here. He loves the club as it is.
As if he's not going to make sure his son is going to be looked after.

Paul Kent: The bold Panthers power play that lured Ivan Cleary to key meeting

IT began in a meeting that appeared innocent, but turned out to be anything but.

Last week the Panthers requested a meeting with Wests Tigers coach Ivan Cleary, believed to be about his son, their star halfback Nathan.

What eventuated was one of the boldest power plays in NRL history.

Speaking on NRL 360 on Tuesday night, host Paul Kent said the Wests Tigers were not aware their head coach had attended a meeting about his future at the Panthers, and what happened next caught everyone completely off guard.

“It began last week,” Kent said.

“What happened was, Dave O’Neill, the chairman of the Penrith football club, rang Ivan and asked him for a meeting. Ivan has told the Wests Tigers he believed the meeting was about Nathan, his son at the club.”

Kent revealed the meeting was intended to gauge whether Cleary would be willing to return to the club — whether it be once his contract finishes with the Wests Tigers, or at any point sin the future.

According to Kent, it was Cleary who suggested he would be willing to come to the Panthers sooner rather than later.

“He went to the meeting and in the meeting it was expressed to him that they would ask [Ivan] would you come back and if so, when do you think you would?

“Would it be 2021, his first season out of the Tigers or would it be 2022?

“And Ivan said I would be willing to go back next year, sooner rather than later.”

Cleary is under contract with the Tigers until the end of 2020 and CEO Justin Pascoe has said the club would not release him even if it’s requested — indicating they’re prepared to fight.

However, Kent believes the reason Cleary is willing to coach Penrith next season is to oversee the development of his son — to do what is best for him in a club with tremendous resources.

“Why give another coach a couple of years to get to Nathan and perhaps not allow him to grow as a footballer as he believes he should, so Ivan gets there and basically look after his son,” he said

here's a thought: if Cleary does come here ( hasn't been confirmed as yet) and we fail to make the finals next year is everyone going to say get rid of him( as many people were saying about hook since he was appointed)????
Barring a special injury situation or something else out of the ordinary if Cleary didn't make the finals next season he should be sacked. Going out in round 1 of the finals should see him under pressure and possibly gone too.

You think he's going to try destroying our cap to make his kid richer and potentially ruin his career?

His kid's set for life without needing to destroy our cap. He can earn $500k a season for 10+ years easily. The records he sets in that time can leave him with a legacy where he's a grest that's involved with the club for the rest of his life.

The Clearys aren't driven by money. They want to work together more than anything. Ivan is willing to destroy his own reputation to make it happen at the club which is best for Nathan.

It was his idea to do it sooner rather than later.

Yes I think he will prioritise his son's earnings over just about everything and pay him whatever the Tigers were prepared to offer.

He gets one season where average results are ok. Average for me is 6th to 8th.

He should be looking at top 4 and week 3 of finals. Anything less within the first 2 years should see him sacked or demoted. Maybe as an assistant to Fittler. I really want Fittler.

whoever we have to offload to get Ivan it cannot be anyone in our main squad or just outside of it. we don't want another rebuild year we want a premiership. if tigers want our main players in our main squad then forget Ivan, go for the Melbourne assistant coach

Depends what players they want. Reserve graders I could live with.

Don’t think they’ll be able to sell reserve graders to their fans. To me it reads like they want to look tough if they’re going to release him, they’ll want someone semi decent in return.

It's a pretty hot reserve grade side. Seven points clear. Must be some talent there.

If Ivan asks to leave, I don't think they are really in much of a position to bargain.
