Whoever comes in will have to accept the squad is bought and sold by rhe GM. This attitude has been growing in the game and Des was the final nail. The coach will have to use the top 30 they get ro the best of their ability.

They need to work together though. If the coach wants a certain style player. The GM should get the player or type of player. You can't br successful if the coach is hamstrung by things like recruitment.

I don't think the coach should do the recruitment etc but should have some say

Let's remember Wes Naiqama and Whare were preferred to Moylan. Infact Ivan was fine if he left so changes will happen

Cleary has been in charge of recruitment at the Tigers though.

I don’t think it’s a huge concern anyway, most of the squad was here when Cleary was.

The concern about Cleary is a possible reluctance to use juniors.

He might see more upside being able to have a working relationship with Nathan in a premiership contender rather than take Nathan into a rebuild or not work with him at all.

Whoever comes better accept and use our juniors.

We can give them back Tim Grant. I'm sure he doesn't want to play under Cleary for his 3rd club in a row......

I actually think our current squad would be more suited to Bennett than Cleary.

Cleary seems to prefer a smaller, quicker side on average that scrambles in defence rather than a bash and crash style with big first contact.

We now have a very different style of team to a usual Cleary side. That is because the team’s design has been influenced by 3 years of Hook’s preferences.

Bennett style teams are much more similar to our current squad than a usual Cleary style team.

After going through some other dodgy options. Moylan was quite old for his talent when he debuted, had big wraps on him for a long time in reserves.

Cleary was definitely more reluctant to give youngsters a go.

Moylan was told by Gould after nyc he wasn’t wanted because he was too small, Ronnie Palmer convinced them to keep him and built him up that offseason.

Yeo debuted at 18. Dwz at 18. Carty at 19. Waqa. Leota. Katoa. All at 20/21 debuted under Cleary that’s just off the top of my head. He gave lots of youngsters a go.

No. They had a shot before he did. Huge difference. Whare supposedly because it was promised to him when he signed.

We argued with the NRL that Wes Naiqama was NOT a fullback to get an exemption to play Moylan.

Moylan was Clearys first choice fullback from the moment he made his debut.

Edit
Let's not forget Carty was Hooks first choice 5/8th. Which ultimately ruined his career

Gus blew up big time about being told they couldn't play Moylan there recently.

So far as we know the agreed facts are:

  • Gould sacked Hook Monday
  • Cleary met Penrith for discussions two weeks ago
  • Gould has said Cleary is the main target to take over from Hook
  • Penrith CEO Fletcher says there’s been no contract tabled to Cleary
  • Tigers CEO Pascoe says there’s been no request for release and none would be granted in any event.

Bennett salts the earth and destroys clubs before he leaves.
Would you take a maybe shot at a premiership and the be hopeless wooden spooners for years afterwards??
Ridiculous.

Didn't happen to either the Broncos or the Dragons, and wouldn't happen to us. Not to say I want Bennett, but that is a pretty weak line of reasoning.

I will find the story later. Moylan said he was told to leave. The debut led to him staying.

The Bryce point is a good one. We don't know if the new coach coming in won't want to change guys positions...

So there will be changes

Dragons slid a lot post Bennett, wether that was his fault or not I can’t say.

2010 premiers

Then in 2013 they were second last.

After Bennett at the dragons.
9th
14th
11th
You know about Newcastle.
Bennett is the destroyer of clubs.
Penrith should build a wall to keep him out.
