It is like they are keeping Gus out of it on purpose at this stage, the less he knows the better so he doesn't have to lie. Not that lying has ever been an issue for him haha. Moylan's mental illness being my favourite.

ReggieBasil on reddit said this. Tigers supporter and reasonable person.

"Gould is hosing down speculation so as to give the appearance of not tampering with a contracted coach. He's read the room now and has walked back from the more rambunctious "we have a target" type talk.

The longer this goes without Cleary stating his position the more likely he goes - they're obviously negotiating as we speak about money and players.

If they can agree, he goes. If they can't he don't."

Here is my prediction -

1. Penrith will publicly drop of Ivan for 2019
2. Penrith will resign Nathan for 4-5 years
3. Penrith will announce Ciraldo as first grade coach for 2 years
4. Ivan will sign with Penrith from 2021
5. Tigers will finally relent and realise that they can't have a coach who will be leaving in 2.5 years
6. Ivan will turn up to pre-season training in November 2018

I don't know Ivan or Nathan, never spoke to either of them. However, they are both smart men and I believe that they know deep down that Penrith is the best place for Nathan to progress as a footballer. He is the incumbent NSW halfback and would be risking losing that by going to a side that isn't as developed as the one he current plays in.

The resources and squad of Penrith has greater scope for enhancement than the Tiger's current have.

If Nathan was 26 and had achieved everything in the game, I believe that we would be a greater risk of losing him. He doesn't need the burden on trying to build a team at his young age.

For the love and progression of his son, I believe that Ivan would be prepared to wear the mud from the Tigers and general rugby league fans. I am sure his younger son would also benefit.

Remember that Stuart walked out on Parramatta and that is forgotten now. SBW walked out on the Bulldogs and the media can't get enough of him. Time dilutes everything and if Ivan needs to come to Penrith to enhance his and his son's career, good on him.

Imagine negotiating players out of the joint to bring in Ivan Cleary. FMD.
Easy. Negotiate the guys on overs.

Tamou and Merrin. Hell even Jimmy if it takes it... even though the last time Jimmy was coached by Ivan they played in a grand final.

We hsve players we font want to keep anyway. Not on their current contracts atleast.

Two things:
1. I don't give a crap about the Cleary's "enhancing" their careers; I want the club as a whole to do well.
2. Why does Nathan need his father holding his hand to develop his game? That premise doesn't make sense and makes Nathan seem a little high maintenance.

I am sure that Nathan isn't high maintenance at all. However, I do think he has a strong sense of loyalty and would leave to help his father, even if it meant his own progression could possible slow.

It's just my opinion and I am obviously biased towards Penrith. Nathan for the progression of his career is 1000 times better off in the Penrith system. I am sure the Tigers will get there but are at least 3-4 years behind us.

Ivan coming back to Penrith elevates the need of Nathan to be loyal and leave a great system.

I could be reading it completely wrong but that is how I see it.

When you clearly express view of one, be prepared to get called one :D:D:D
You may like abuse being hurled in here, I don't. Manners cost nothing. Opinions can be expressed without name calling, unless of course you have anger issues and a limited vocabulary.

Nathan and Ivan absolutely would have discussed it.

It was his prediction of what would happen. I don't think it was meant to be best case scenario.

This is pretty much exactly the position Gus has manoeuvred us to and what he hopes will happen.

I don’t think they’re that stupid.

They feel they’ve been burnt, they’ll be out for blood. They need something to give to their fans.

The wildcard in all this is how well we do this season. If we end up premiers it'll be very difficult to argue we need to make enormous sacrifices to lure Cleary (or anyone else) to the club. Different story if we look like ass before crashing out in w1. There's little benefit to the club in outlaying huge money before knowing what Ciraldo can get out of this group.

Seriously, Ciraldo is laughing. Dudes playing with house money here.

If we win the premiership it will be assumed Gus and maybe Brandy had as big a hand in the coaching as Ciraldo. And they're not going to want to do that again for a whole season.

4 to 8 weeks of their attention is definitely easier than a full 12 months

Although I doubt either has the time to completely take over. They will without doubt help Ciraldo... and potentially make his career as a coach.

But both still have their other commitments. If Gus was 100% involved with his coaching philoof attacking on evety play as Hook said. I would certainly love to see that.
