Just a question.

What was different about the rumours the Broncos were chasing Cleary snr and jnr for 2020? Cleary snr still had a year to run. No one batted an eyelid then...they just attacked us with the potential of losing jnr.

I know you can’t really believe anything Gus says, but before the game today he said that Penrith doesn’t have anyone in mind now to coach the Panthers (which he also claimed was what he said before - lol). He said a decision will be made in the off season.

I'd bet money that Cleary made promises he couldn't keep.

If you heard his press conference Ivan didn't give any definitive answers about next year, so there is hope Ivan could return next year.

Hope is the wrong word.

There is the possibility he could return, not sure why we’d be hoping for it though. He really isn’t that good of a coach. Hook was a sideways movement, it’d be a sideways movement to go back to Cleary.

Looks like Wayne's relationship with the Broncos is on the rocks, and that he might be terminated at the end of this season. I guess he will come firmly into the calculations for our team.

Is he past it? The Broncos haven't been anything like the Broncos of old this year. Whilst you'd have to be blind to see that they lack an organising half (and I am sure Bennett knows that), they aren't doing any of the basic things right either. They have been dropping almost as much ball as us, and their defence has not had the grit you'd normally expect of the Broncos.

If we sign him, he'd probably also want to bring his own staff with him.

I’d only want Bennett under certain conditions. Gus manages recruitment and retention, Ciraldo stays and no Darry B. Certainly if we end up in the weird situation of waiting on Ivan for 2 years it’d be a solid option. I think Hasler would be good under those same terms in that situation (but no Foran instead).

Assuming we are recruiting a coach to take us forward indefinitely, I think Tooves would be my pick. Ciraldo if he can turn this thing around over the next month.

The Broncos have a pretty unbalanced squad but that 100% on Bennett. He's had more than enough time to solve their issues if he was capable.

He's a long way from being a spring chicken and I know being old is not the same as being useless, but I do think it makes it more difficult to command the respect of a group of hyper physical 20-30 year olds.

Throw in the fact he's an extremely strong willed dude who will clash with Gus and I think you've got a pretty foreseeable disaster heading out way if we choose him.

The area where we excel over other clubs is no coach we hire can come in and get their hands on our cheque book.

Wayne Bennett or Des Hazler couldnt destroy our salary cap if we had them for 2 years. Obviously the coach has a say in what players they want or don't want.

But Gus will only take that into consideration. So we could tske a punt on Dessie and not be screwed like Manly or Canterbury. We could sign Bennett and not be stuck with Darius... who has already ruled out moving clubs if Wayne does.

Wayne is the ideal signing as he wouldnt want to stay beyond s 2 year deal anyway. Not sure he coulf get us a premiership in the 2 years. But with this squad I would expect week 3 of finals at a minimum.

Ivan started the development of the junior system, and Hook finished off. If it wasn't for the great work from Ivan, Hook would not have had the players he did.

Judging by his rebuilding his a great man manager. Probably one of the best. We need that to go to the next level. He can have support staff for tactical genuis. Look at Roosters. One of the best teams in the comp and Robinson can't coach attack to save himself.

I’m not saying Cleary isn’t a decent coach, but he hasn’t shown he’s worth all this fuss, and definitely not enough to appoint a coach for 2 years whilst we wait on him for 2021.

There’s a solid argument his career win percentage is low because he’s coached rebuilding clubs, but to say he’s one of the best is a huge stretch. He’s coached a team to one GF, lets not get carried away.

I didn't say he's one of the best coaches I said he appears to be one of the best man managers. We can put tactical people around him. Ciro as defencive coach for a start.

That’s the same argument people were making for Griffin. We can put good people around him. Why not appoint a coach who can do tactical footy & still appoint good people to go around him?

This is why I see this as another sideways movement, it also appears like the club has total tunnel vision for who they want. Successful organisations don’t operate like that.

We put good people around Griffin and look how that turned out. Ciraldo tried to quit twice.

Personally I'd be happy if Ciraldo gets a shot at the job. I like Ivan but I'm not going to be upset if he doesn't come back.
