It’s one of the indications of the games health

It also makes game far more enjoyable to watch both at the ground and on TV.

The better question is why there are constantly dumb merkins posting in this thread who supposedly don’t care about crowds.

Newy looking real, real good tonight. Not sure if it'll beat the Roosters crowd from last home game (25,900~) but shouldn't be much shy. Will depend on member turnout I suppose.

If the Roosters want to stick with this they need to make it feel like more of an event, walking up to the stadium there was a half fallen down membership gazebo (I think) and that was about it, didnt see any advertisment in the city either

In 2017 there were banners all around the city with Boyd Cordner and Cam Smith on them, the trouble with that was the match was straight after origin so neither of them played, i also found that at that game plenty of supporters who went bought along friends who didn't really know the rules so they spent their time explaining them as the game went on, could explain while the crowd was so quiet this time. I wonder if the Roosters will play in Adelaide next year ? The original deal was only for 3 years if I remember rightly. First year the crowd was over 21,000, last year just over 17, 000 and this year just over 16, 000 so the crowds have slid for the last two years.

Which is why crowds are a useful test of how well the game is growing in popularity, or not. Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney static at best, GC struggling, Newcastle going strong, Melbourne slowly growing etc. reality is if we only go to Adelaide once every 12 months it is going to do very little, if anything, to grow nrl popularity,

Not to mention for clubs financially struggling crowds can be a major source of revenie

I know its a Roosters home game but considering the crowd was at least 50/50 it'd be great to see it be treated somehow as a "neutral" venue, or even have the 2 clubs alternate the home game if its going to continue, could've maybe got a bit more out of the crowd noise wise if the away side was given some attention as well

End of the day 16,000 is still a good crowd as far as NRL crowds go, and I hope Adelaide is stuck with in some form or another, if the Roosters feel it's best to pull out then I hope the NRL convinces another club to step in, I'd rather the Storm took a game here than Brisbane every year

Port Adelaide Roosters should play 9 games in the city of churches and 3 heritage games at the SFS/SCG

There are more Manly fans here at CBUS than Titans fans, this will be the fate of Redcliffe if they get in.

Imagine what a non rugby league town would end up like.... especially with a team that gets flogged every week.

Your Perth vendetta aside, most evidence seems to suggest that outside Brisbane, the "non-league" cities seem to be generating more interest than the so called heartlands.

Where did you get that info?

I reckon if you put a team in Adelaide and they got flogged most weeks then the crowds would be shit.

Look at Newcastle
A one team footy city- great crowds
Have been shit for years.

Why pretend rugby league will be anything other than a support act to the AFL in those other joints?

Of course it would be a support act to a more established sport with over a century of continuous top flight presence. Doesn't mean it'll be poorly supported though. That kind of backwards thinking is what leads to stagnation.

I’m a realist
In fact I’d say rugby league would be behind both AFL and Soccer in WA TAS VIC NT

Btw I don’t hate Perth the place
I hate Perth Red ever since he started death riding my club though.

Fair enough. Definitely not soccer in WA. Perth had the soccer minor premiers this year and even the game before the grand final were getting 9,000 per game. No way a league team wouldn't be getting at least 15k avg.

Storm who have been premiers ,minor premiers , grand finalists and a top 4 team for pretty 10 years straight only avg about 15k

So Perth would want to have a LOT a loyal fans .
