What do you suggest?
Realistic suggestions only

i always love these....especially from you.

Cheap tickets in sht time slots, decent food, drinks etc, loads fo stuff for kids and families. Like I said I went to a bbl match, find cricket incredibly boring but the place was a 20k sell out full of families with everyone having a great time. It seems we have forgotten we are in the entertainment business.
Terrible weather in Perth all week, 60k at Optus tonight. Maybe we can figure out how our rivals do it?

BBL $65 family ga
NRL $50 family ga ( Shark park)
2 adults 2 kids

Food is very good at Shark park plenty of options.
I don’t bother but my son always gets stuff.
It’s expensive but compared to all other sports it’s around the same price.
$10 pizza about the size of a dinner plate.

Loads of stuff to do for the family?
Not sure what you mean.

Again ...at Shark park
There are DJ’s at the gate with free face painting.
They do a bunch of stuff to engage the crowd .
There is always half time entertainment.
That could be a thousand kids dancing or kids playing touch footy or people being picked for a bomb catching competition.
They do a thing where they put the camera on the crowd and the person doing the most passionate version of sweet Caroline wins a prize
I haven’t won yet it must be rigged.
Other than that the game is on.
I get there about 10 mins before kick off .
I leave as soon as it’s finished.
Maybe there is lots of dead time in the BBL for all the other crap.

I was talking to my dad and brother last night.
My brother mentioned the crowd at Wollongong.
Now he is not a bloke who goes to the footy , we used go to together as kids.
He said
Why would I go and sit in the freezing cold and watch a game from 100 metres away and then spend an hour trying to get home.
He then said , he can pause, rewind , get his Uber food from the door, take a dump ..all during the game in HD and then be in bed 1 minute after full time.
...and it costs him hardly anything compared to going to the game.

He doesn’t give a flying f**k about a cheap ticket or half time entertainment.
My old man said pretty much the same thing.

So why is shark park on a sunny sunday afternoon half empty? Or does RL simply not have the fanbase we think it has?

Out of town team that are underperforming to date are being hosted . And plenty of families are away elsewhere. In addition the fan.bases are Australia wide. Not just in the shire etc. Something you keep forgetting!

So how do other sporting codes get larger crowd sizes then?

Does the BBL & AFL only have fans that live within 10kms of the stadiums? No they have fans nation wide as well. What a ridiculous suggestion.

? Strange and ignorant response! Not only are the Broncos not the high achieving Brisbane side of years gone by, it is school holidays and the Sharks are a community based club with plenty of family support. Plenty of these families have gone away on school holidays. Inclement weather around this area in recent times doesn't help either. Btw. The BBL is not played in the middle of winter. I would also suggest that a few AFL (training run) crowds are down lately . Admittedly their lofty heights are something to aspire to for all codes worldwide in my opinion.

Broncos v Warriors ticket sales look pretty decent. Probably about 27k sold.

Corporates will let us down being a Saturday, but 34-36k is possible, especially off the back of a thrilling win.

Looks like Storm v Sharks in Melbourne will be a big crowd too! Melbourne are making an effort to celebrate Cameron Smith's 400th NRL game.

Can you provide a link to that absolute certainty?
Phil Gould had tweeted about it several times in August/September last year. His tweets are no longer there because he deleted his account but he absolutely did tweet it. If you search the right phrases on twitter you might find the replies to it that reiterate it.

Was sunny for kick off. Rained yesterday and ovetnight throw in school holidays too.

Wow, so now rain on the day before a game is now a legit excuse. We have to stop making excuses and just admit the truth.
Seriously Sydneysiders, we have to admit that we have a really shit attendance culture for sport.
No more excuses. Most would just prefer to sit on our lazy arses and watch on tv. I'm one of them and am not afraid to admit it. When I was younger, I couldn't get enough of a live game day experience, but I don't feel that drawcard anymore. There's a multitude of reasons why, all of which have been mentioned here already.
And simply, we just have to admit we don't have the attendance culture of the ALF, and that culture is weird in itself, due to the fact that ALF and Victorians and other southern states think that their sport is the best and they continually believe that it will take over the world. It's an enclosed obsession of a very small part of the planet, yet it keeps them all happy enough that they think they are relevant in the grand scheme of things.
Good luck to them but honestly, they have reached their peak. We haven't, but I doubt we ever will.

Here's a picture from before a game outside the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough during this past Championship football season. The 2nd division in England. The 32000 capacity stadium was almost sold out on this day.
The population of Middlesborough is between 132000 and 176000, depending on how much of the local area is included.

And we complain about a bit of rain the day before.

Haha! Nope. I love that you know what a Smoggy is!
I have supported Newcastle United since I was about 10 years old, watching Brian Moore on Match of the Day on the ABC at 10 pm every Monday night during the 70's. I'm not a Geordie either.
Born and bred Aussie.
