2019 Crowd Watch

It isn't actually possible to move things all the time, especially when the NRL are inconsiderate enough to have it start after 8pm on a week night. People finish work late and start early. That's life.

Many families already have commitments on school nights. Homework, footy and netball training, sleep.

And whether you believe it or not- work, sport and education are probably more important than venturing out for a football game. Until we start paying people to turn up, the other things will take priority (as they should).

We should be grateful for those who turn up and those that watch on TV.
As I mentioned previosuly, apathy. Those commmitments aren’t unique to people and families of Sydney. However you look at it, 10k for two well supported Sydney teams is bloody average stuff.

Storm are one team in a city of 4m people. A city that is better set out for moving around.

Souths who's fans live mostly West now and Dragons who's fans are split between Sydney and wollongong
Yes, Melbourne has a more accessible infrastructure but you make it sound like it’s a hop step and jump to get there for all fans. I’m an hour to any Melbourne stadium and my dad 45 minutes away in the opposite direction, but the Storm
brings us together for a good night out. If you want to be there, you will go.

You also have 12 times to watch your team a year. Wheras in Sydney upto 20 games. You can be my choosy.

Agree. Also if they must have a number of mid week games they have to play then jam some extra Monday and Thursday games into school holidays

So you're saying that watching live RL isn't appealing to most people to motivate working around 'other shit' to be done? Sounds like the NRL has really got a passionate following in Sydney. That attitude needs to be changed, with the help of the NRL and clubs especially, so that at the start of the week or every couple of weeks, going to a game of RL forms an initial part of planning the week ahead.

Do agree with an earlier poster that the number of Thursday games should be limited to the warmer/drier months of the season.

round 2 and we're already hearing the excuses, and theres only one solution to "to many games in sydney"..

Even if there is too much choice, wouldn't 2 local, traditional rivals be one of the games to watch?

And if the suburban grounds are too hard to get to then whats the point of playing at them? Isn't that the whole point of them?
I get this year it couldn't of happened but if the sfs was still open would it of gotten any less?

This

I think many people on here don't realise that a good chunk of storm's support comes from the outer suburbs, its not that easy to get to and from the stadiums, but they make the effort

and our public transport has its problems too, I'm lucky enough to only be a couple stops out from Richmond which is usually only 15-ish minutes, but for seemingly no reason and with no explanation last Thursday I rocked up to the station with 30 minutes to spare until kick off and the usual train every 10-15 minutes had turned into a 1.5 hour delay. Ended up having to wait for an uber in stand still traffic and got there 10 minutes late, and I noticed a few were just waiting it out at the station..

Yes. Better marketing and perhaps a cheaper pricing deal on Thursdays should occur.

I'm in the outer eastern suburbs and always drive. A good run in is still about a 45 minute drive and can easily blow out to an hour and a half at the wrong time of day. Hoddle Street/Punt Road can be a huge pain and if you're parking in the city you might have to deal with traffic there, too. I used to take the train but quickly realised that it's actually quicker driving, especially on the way back home - plus, you don't have to deal with an overcrowded carriage for half of the trip out on the Lilydale line.

Anecdotally speaking, there's plenty of support out this way.

Rocking up to support your team is just one of those weird Melbourne things I reckon.

Funny that it seems the same Sydney fans railing against relocation are the ones who wouldn’t attend a match if it was being held over their back fence.

Despite a fairly vocal minority most fans probably wouldn't be effected by their club being relocated, nothing stopping them supporting from tv / the occasion heritage or away game like they do now anyway..

Back to crowds - did Suncorp end up selling out?

When Melbourne can get 16k on a Thursday, and two Sydney rivals struggle to get 10k.
Relocate Relocate Relocate!!!!!

Forget relocating these teams, we know they have enough fans in Sydney

Just f*ck off these suburban dumps. The fans have clearly decided they arent going to turn up.

I'm from Newcastle and support the Roosters. I'm sick of the relocation/merger chatter. It's dissapointing and impacts poorly on my feeling for the code and where it's headed. Very negative discourse and I'm not a negative person. I actually think the relocation talk creates a poor feeling about the competition which pisses fans off enough to not bother . The negative message gives negative vibes of "Why bother! ?" Think that's relevant to crowds!

when Allianz, ANZ & BankWest are completed. Hopefully suburban grounds will become a thing of the past.

Lol . Heard this before. The suburban grounds do have their place! They keep the code culturally relevant in their home area. I'm thinking Thursday games should be half price at least! Wondering what the costs of entry was at Kogarah last night? Might answer a few questions!

Or maybe just schedule games at suburban grounds for Saturday or Sunday afternoons, because that's where the nostalgia lies.
