If you want to be pedantic: Mt Smart is in Penrose, McDonald Jones is in New Lambton, Cbus is in Robina, Campbelltown Stadium is in Leumeah, Leichhardt Oval is in Lilyfield, and 1300SMILES Stadium is in Kirwan.

Very pessimistic about the knights v dragons

Saints are probably the second best supported club in Newcastle

We got 19k against the panthers 2 weeks ago with virtually no away support

I know it’s the Sunday night game but there should hopefully be 22k or so there

Great table!
But raw stats don't show the real picture. Bathurst may have been in the bottom ten crowds but it was at 100% capacity - a ground record! The round one crowds in Sydney were drastically affected by weather but you can't factor that in.
There are a multitude of factors that can't be shown in these figures. It might make some people feel good, but really doesn't mean that much!

Well lets just play all games at regional centers, fill tiny stadiums and pat ourselves on the back about reaching capacity regularly. That'll grow the game!

It's a winter sport, it's often going to be affected by weather.

Stats are facts, they are the real picture. You just want to make excuses.

How many people saw the game at Bathurst that don't normally? Same when games are in Wagga Wagga, Mudgee Tamworth, Sunshine Coast etc.

RL is king in regional areas. Crowd are irrelevant in same cases. games in Regional areas are such cases

I think we'll be pushing shit up hill trying to grow crowds in the foreseeable future.

There are changes outside of the control of the game. People's screen time, the availability of varied content + the general inclination to flick from one task to another.

It's becoming difficult to sit for 80 minutes to watch a football game.

Even when watching on TV most people are probably preoccupied with other things.

Rugby League is the background noise to flicking through Insta and facebook. You just look up when someone scores or gets hurt.

Maybe people will come back to a more simplistic existence but these screen addictions are real.

No one is denying that taking games to regional stadiums are a great way for the NRL to connect with regional areas. I'm making a point that filling a 10k stadium during the regular season isn't a cause for celebration in relation to impact on crowds as a whole. At the end of the day is a 10k crowd, well below what we should be aiming for as a benchmark for crowds. The only games that should be considered for these areas are games that would be able to draw a crowd at a regional location, that would be close to what would be likely at the regular stadium host.

Here is how I see it. The crowd probably draws the same at Penrith. Bathurst forked out $300k for the game. A sellout helps justify it to their ratepayers and may encourage other areas to do the same. There is atleast 2-3 games that will draw poorly so if it encourages them to be moved then it is good
