I think we'll be pushing shit up hill trying to grow crowds in the foreseeable future.

There are changes outside of the control of the game. People's screen time, the availability of varied content + the general inclination to flick from one task to another.

It's becoming difficult to sit for 80 minutes to watch a football game.

Even when watching on TV most people are probably preoccupied with other things.

Rugby League is the background noise to flicking through Insta and facebook. You just look up when someone scores or gets hurt.

Maybe people will come back to a more simplistic existence but these screen addictions are real.
when Storm are on tv playing I don`t get interrupted. If I want a drink hubby waits til half time to bring it to me. If anyone want anything to eat they know where the kitchen is. Storm time is my time

Here is how I see it. The crowd probably draws the same at Penrith. Bathurst forked out $300k for the game. A sellout helps justify it to their ratepayers and may encourage other areas to do the same. There is atleast 2-3 games that will draw poorly so if it encourages them to be moved then it is good

I'm not disagreeing with you. Financially if the benefit is there, you take a game out to regional fans hungry for NRL action and its a game where you are unlikely to sacrifice attendance numbers, that's three ticks. I was responding to a post about the crowd number being presented not being the 'real picture' due to games taken regionally or for poor weather, when in fact they are the real picture. If you take dragons v roosters from ANZAC day to a regional area then yes that has a detrimental impact on crowds. In this instance there was no detrimental impact taking the game regionally on crowd numbers.

Very pessimistic about the knights v dragons

Saints are probably the second best supported club in Newcastle

We got 19k against the panthers 2 weeks ago with virtually no away support

I know it’s the Sunday night game but there should hopefully be 22k or so there

I hope you are correct.

Sunday nights in Sydney are terrible for crowds, hopefully Newcastle bucks that trend.

It Newcastle v Saints. The Dragons have a massive following. It should draw well despite the timeslot . Alex McKinnon Cup. And weather permitting. Still wordering why this game isn't on at 2pm?

Luckily the Tiger's played the Bulldogs who brought a lot of support yesterday, if they played an out of Sydney team it would've got 9-10K...

1) no way there was 15k there. Crowd was couple thousand bigger easily. GA tix sold out 20 mins b4 kick off. I go to every game there and I would like to know where the other ~5k would fit.

2) yes there was a good dogs contingent but so there should be. Its a local derby, just like Wests who bring heaps of fans to boost your home average

You’re welcome

Is that the same massive following that drew just 10000 to a massive Sydney derby against long time rivals Souths at their own home ground?

I would say the Dragons have comfortably the most widespread support in the comp. They draw big away crowds everywhere, especially when they are successful. Time slot is a bit shit this week though.

Lol. It's in Newcastle champ! Newcastle people follow many Sydney based clubs. The Dragons happen to have great support all over Australia. Newcastle is no different.

Storm ANZAC day PAX is at 5346, couple weeks out still but I though I'd chuck it up here
As usual there's no GA tickets being sold for it either

Eh if you’ve ever been to a dragons match in Newcastle you’d know how many fans they bring. Agree though that their home fans need to step up in a big way.

A bit of an out there alternative, but could the Roosters and/or South's use Kogarah during redevelopment? Seems to work ok for Sydney FC?

10000 @SCG? If so the wet weather plus the ground itself was a factor along with an out of city team on a Thursday night.
