Part of that context though is performance. Roosters are on fire. If ever there was a time to get off the sofa and go and enjoy your club winning it is now for Roosters fans!

That's true but take in to account Thursday, the SCG and other Sydney crowds this year by clubs with allegedly a way higher supporter base...

Like I mentioned above, the way to deal with that is to offer to memebrs deals to bring family and friends. That way the members are actually getting value add and they may convert a few mates to become members. Id have bring a mate for $10 (as many as you like) for these crappy games

The sad thing is, Season ticket holders COULD bring a mate for free last night.
I dont know how many people take advantage of that, but guessing not many.

Thats the stadiums issue not the clubs. Generally clubs have a set hire rate for the stadium, regardless of how many show up. It doesn't devalue regular games, what it is saying is we recognise this isnt the best time to come to a game so we are going to compensate that by making it cheaper. A lot of events have a tiered pricing system depending on premium of time the event is on.

I remember Clive Palmer locking fans out of a Gold Coast United game because he didn't want to pay the full fare for the stadium. He capped the crowd at 2,500 or something so they didn't have to open all the stands. Not sure if that's how all the grounds structure their deals though.

Anyway. They might lose money doing what you said anyway.

9,500 x $30= $285,000

14,000 x $15= $210,000.

That's a "two for one" example.

That's if you can convince the extra 4,500 to turn up, which you probably can't because they are busy anyway.

These are all just made up figures for an example. Obviously you'd still be getting some people paying full prices for better seats etc. Also, members are already committed... but I'd imagine the real maths would work out with a loss too.

f**k losing more money.

Thankfully our move to scg coincided with a premiership win otherwise I’d hate to think how poor our crowds would be. Even with a poor crowd last night I didn’t manage to get home till around 11. On top of paying $25 for parking and $20 odd for a few beers. At least they gave us a game clock last night. I get that it is temporary and will be better for us in the long term with a new stadium but they need to somehow compensate the fans for the poorer experience. Won’t hold my breath though.

Imo the club might need to take a short term hit on ticket prices and memberships. Better to lose some pocket change now than have crowds lose enthusiasm for 3 years running.

Going to the football is a habit, the last thing we need is for the minority of fans who do make that weekly effort to be broken out of it.

If you look at our first 4 home games being:

South's - Friday night
Broncos - Thursday night
ANZAC Day
Tigers - Sat night

If members/supporters were going to miss one of those it is easy to see which is the least appealing. As a game we want way higher crowds than last night but in context 9.3k is is better than other crowds this season.

9.3k is the worst NRL crowd thus far this season

And many of these were SCG Trust members or guests anyway eg everyone in the Members Ladies Noble & Bradman stands.

While OReilly stand has actual Easts members

Everywhere else were normal fans

Only two Gold Coast games got sub 10k with 9.8k crowd

The NRL need to seriously look at having "hosting rights" for Thursday night footy.

Places like Perth, Adelaide, Gosford etc should be given games.

9,000 for the reigning premiers vs the Broncos is horrible. Souths vs Gold Coast on Sunday no better. That game should have been the one taken to Qld FFS.

Take that game to Adelaide and get 9000 and every merkin on the Eastern Seaboard has to watch it on TV anyway, which is what they probably did by the look of things.
Stop talking sense.

I don't know but do most Rooster supporters live the Eastern Suburbs???

I lived in Bondi for a time. A lot of Roosters fans in the area are transient - travellers etc who have adopted the team but not "died in the wool". There are still resident fans around the area but the majority I know have dispersed and in outside areas. A lot like Rabbitohs & Dragons Fans. Ie a large percentage now live well away from the homeland. Despite common opinion, and perhaps deflating a reason to take the piss out of them - I think they actually have a sizeable supporter base.

The Moore Park complex is a pig to get to on any given thursday/friday night. And getting out is just as worse. The Light Rail will help when it's going, much better public transport access. I'd expect this will improve attendances when the new stadium gets up and running next door. The SCG has a great nostalgic element to it but definitely isn't a great venue to watch League, especially if you're a member week in week out.

I'm in SW Sydney.

And whilst there's a lot of Doggies and Tigers...there's a shed load of Saints, Easts, Souths and Manly living out this way.

I know the guy who nurtured and encouraged the move to ANZ purely on membership / supporter base numbers outside of the traditional Souffs territory. The financial incentives worked too. ANZ should be rebuilt remodelled as NRL HQ Central. Get all the city transport infrastructure connected to it and play key games there and the odd other game at a "suburban / heartland " ground and then take 2-3 on the road to a "Growth" market ie Adelaide, Perth, NZ2, Brisbane 2, Qld 3/4, Darwin, Alice Springs, regional centres etc.

The money is in the TV. Crowds are "extra". Nurture them right and you get growth centres supporting NRL and NRL teams and get the teams stronger.

Fish where the fish are.

They are though. If they get a bigger crowd they need more security, staff, cleaners etc.

Plus, it probably devalues the regular games if a family comes to this game instead of a Saturday paying full price.

Do Junior Leaguers still get free tickets?

The Saturday or Sunday games are the more attractive slot for most people and as such, should be priced as a more premier fixture than a Thursday night/ early Friday game. Basic Economics suggests a low demand should result in a lower price point. It's not a devaluing of the product but the different fixtures means the product can vary in attractiveness and the pricing should reflect that.

Fair enough. But it really only works if you’re charging a premium and making a killing on the premier games- which they probably aren’t.

Costs still need to be met. Not much point producing a product for $15 if it costs $25. That’s basic economics.

No, its not much point but if you're committed to a fixed cost regardless, why not try to maximize the revenue by pricing it based on demand? Better to charge $15 to increase uptake than charge $30 and get nothing at all?

So far, it's actually the worst this year. Anyway, why don't they point the cameras at the Members/Ladies stands during low drawing games at the SCG as a historical distraction?

Yep there were less people

But I am against ThNF as crowds are always poor

So far we have had 4 ThNF matches and ALL games have been 2018 Top 8 v Top 8 clashes

These all would have got 20-30k crowds if held on normal weekend time slot

And of course ThNF doesnt have a lead up game so no extra value in attendance v TV coverage

And we have the usual travel issues in around peak hour and impact on work and school

I said in context.

The raw number is the worst but it is only 800 less than dragons/south's combined whom I am told each have a way higher fanbase than us

So either their fanbase aren't much bigger than ours or the few fans we do have are more dedicated.

Be nice if this rain would go away. Turned a lot of people away in Round 1 and has the potential to again tonight.
