The game at Homebush should have had a 30000 plus crowd . Ended up with a bit over 14000. Regardless of the ground: marketing of rugby league is not doing a good job in getting people to a game that had two very historically well supported Sydney clubs at play. Take note both Melbourne 5.30pm. and Newcastle 3pm outdrew the Sydney game played at the supposedly more convenient time of 7.30pm.

There are lot more expat Vics and South Australians in Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast compared with expat New South Welshman and Qlders in Melbourne

It does baffle me why RL isn’t more popular. Why AFL in Brisbane and Sydney can draw double what nrl in Melbourne can is one of life’s mysteries.

Do you have a source on this? Because there sure as hell are a ton of NSW and QLD folk living in WA and have been for a decade+.

Totally unrelated, hypothetical and random post. But with SFS currently demolished, if the Raiders win the right to a home prelim will it be a bankwest?

Depending on who it is against, seems it would be better off letting them have it in Canberra with the extra temporary seating?

Very sure that the NRL announced that Newcastle and Canberra can both play Prelims at ‘home’.

Considering these teams have drawn over 50k on Easter Monday, 25k should be an absolute minimum. The clubs are horrible at promotion and growing crowds, they don’t even try.

Guaranteed stadium revenue hasn't helped..

Look at dogs crowds . They have dropped massively over past 10 years ..

Source? I don’t ever remember that.

It was only 3 years ago they ruled it out

“The NRL has also relaxed similar protocol regarding grand final qualifiers for Newcastle and Canberra, with both regional centres now able to host preliminary finals should either the Knights or Raiders earn the right.”
