God you would like to think 37-38 k would be standard for this ..

On the Late show hosted by Matt Johns, Anthony Miniciello informed that 30 odd thousand tickets had been sold as of yesterday . They are hopefully looking at a sellout. So hoping 40000 plus can be achieved.

In 2016 the Sharks v Cowboys qualifying semi final drew 36,717 at Allianz/SFS.Not many Cowboy's supporters naturally.
Thus I'd be extremely disappointed if tonight's Roosters v Rabbits, didn't get 30,000 plus, even though it's not an elimination match.

That was a preliminary final so you can't compare it to a qualifying final.

Sydney hasn't really drawn big crowds consistently for week 1 finals.

Sharks got 16K against the Cowboys for a week 1 final in 2017.

Yes. That's the aim. To maximize crowds for that first finals week. The NRL mistakenly decided to price gauge about 4 or 5 years ago. People are now getting used to reasonable ticket pricing (last season and this year). So the attendances should grow. Let's hope it does. The footy has been good.

38k on ANZAC Day is the current Sydney game record for this year.

Don't think we'll beat it unfortunately.

For what it's worth, the highest Sydney Week 1 finals crowds of the last decade are:

2011 Tigers v Dragons @ ANZ - 45k
2012 Bulldogs v Manly @ ANZ - 36k
2015 Bulldogs v Saints @ ANZ - 33k
2010 Roosters v Tigers @ SFS - 33k
2013 Roosters v Manly + Cronulla v Cowboys @ SFS - 32k *double header
2015 Cronulla v Souths @ SFS - 27k
2014 Souths v Manly @ SFS -25k
2018 Roosters v Cronulla @ SFS - 24k
2014 Roosters v Penrith @ SFS - 23k
2013 Newcastle v Bulldogs @ ANZ - 23k

Getting around that 33k mark would be a good result

Fair point you make, but I still believe tonight is a promoter's dream
Basically overwhelming support was from Shark's fans and/or bandwaggoners in 2016.Can't expect a horde from Nth Qld to come down.
Compared to two next door neighbours ,who played
one hell of a game last week, playing pretty close to their heartland.

I am aware of the Sharks crowd in 2017 .
I'm just emphasising the two clubs tonight are traditional rivals, practically living next door to each other, with all the drama re JWH and Sam Burgess. It's worthy of a crowd of 35,000.

You are correct about Sydney crowds though, embarrassing at times. And that includes the Sharks.

I wonder if the smaller stadium actually helps ticket sales as it creates scarcity
precisely - this is why suggestions last week that the WT-Sharks game should move from Leichhardt to Bankwest were silly.
