Cliff Lyons Indigenous Jersey

The Lyons' Den is an Contemporary Aboriginal art piece highlighting Lyons’ wonderful playing career from his humble beginnings with the Gundagai Tigers through to his days in the NRL with Manly, as well as representing NSW and Australia.

On the bottom left of the artwork, the portrait of Cliff is surrounded by a circle of dots and the Aboriginal symbol for man & woman. This represents Cliff at his home ground of Brookvale Oval surrounded by his many adoring fans. Surrounding the large circle with Cliff in it, there are a number of larger grey circles, representing every club that Cliff has played for, the dotted lines connecting these circles represent his journey from his junior club days right through to his representative duties for NSW, Australia & The Indigenous Team.

There is also a black area with lizard tracks which represents Cliff's Aboriginal totem, "the lizard".

Either side of this area is a wash of blue and white dots which represent the ocean, and the white wash of the Manly shoreline.

At the bottom right of the artwork is a lizard, again a representation of Cliff's totem. Within the lizard lies some of Cliff's career stats. The front legs contains 102 dots - Cliff's NRL Hall of Fame inductee number.

The back legs contain 80 dots, the number of first grade tries Cliff scored for the Sea Eagles. Down each side of the lizard’s back are 6 dots and 5 dots, representing his 5 goals and 6 field goals for Manly. When you combined all dots and lines within the tail, it totals 309, the total first grade games played for Manly.

The artwork has been applied to a jersey that Cliff wore while representing the Sea Eagles.

Well then, lucky Cliffy is from Narrandera.

Actually I wasn’t really commenting on the cliff jersey.
Just a general comment about aboriginal art.
Central Australia is known for the dot art whereas Arnhem Land and Elcho is etc use a technique called Rarrk ( sort of pronounced ray-ick)
It’s fascinating- each artist has their own signature in the cross hatch
Amount of lines between colours.
They’re bloody geniuses.

Whoa. The Tigers *finally* in an orange jersey again.

It's the most distinctive colour in the whole league, yet they've downplayed it for ages (supposedly) due to the Wests/Balmain power imbalance.

About time they embraced a clear point of distinction for their brand. Make an the art-free version of this the primary/home, and a black version the away, with a white alternate.

Done. Sorted.

would rarely see it.
look how often sharks/dragons/dogs wear the dark away...

Yeah, but Dragons at home in the red V, versus Tigers in black (away)
For the Tigers playing at home (Orange jersey) versus Dragons, THEN the Dragons could wear a dark away.. since they're away team.

Same with Sharks and Bulldogs.

Just takes a little commonsense, co-ordination & planning between the clubs and NRL.. and clear jersey rules being consistently enforced.

Err.. yeah.. I can't believe I just said that either...
