I know the Dragons are supposed to be a team where one absorbed the other as opposed to a straight merger but they should absolutely keep the old Steelers jersey as their alternate forever. It’s simple and it complements the Red V perfectly.

Not great for merch sales unfortunately.

Exactly this - while identity wise it'd be a great concept, for merch sales (which if we're real, is the primary reason for clash kits), it's a disaster having the same design year on year.

I totally understand the merchandise aspect. Perhaps what they can do is cycle through designs - for a year or two it could be the Steelers jersey with two white stripes on the sleeves, then the later Steelers design with three stripes on the sleeves and body and then the blood and bandages.

Ahh.. but the Steelers had a number of subtle variations on a "red jersey", most notably the classic Steelers, the variation they wore in the early 1990s (I think it was against a touring Lions team?), and the triple-stripe late 1990s jersey..

Damn.. beat me to the punch! But yeah.. the Steelers had some variations in their history.

Another spin that the Dragons could do is wear a charcoal (dark grey) away kit, with red trim - like a charcoal variation on a Steelers jersey. Why not? The Bulldogs have already broadened their jersey colours to use a black alternate jersey, and Dragons training gear already features charcoal.

Traditional home jersey, good away jersey that incorporates all of the Raiders colours simply= winner.

But they have the ugliest sponsor integration in the NRL. The Huawei logo is garbage, the itp logo would be so much better if it was just the outline of the Aussie border and the Dare logo on the sleeves is terrible. Every sponsor clashes with the rest of the jersey.

The debate over the St.George alternate jersey has been done and done. Granted we've had some crap over the years (Wolverine springs to mind) and I personally wish we'd just have a reverse of our home strip, red jersey White V (charity shield 2011 style) but our current one in my honest opinion is really good and also is more 'Illawarra' then people give it credit for.

I was St.George pre merger and am by no means anti Illawarra or anti merger but as we see above Illawarra (especially compared to St.George) had no specific identity to hold on to as strongly as old Steelers die hard fans seem to think they did. Nostalgia or loss may make you cling to something that wasn't there, but I never recall ever hearing about the 'iconic hoops of the steelers' as you would the Red V of St.George.

They came into the league in 1982 wearing a knock off college football, San Fran NFL style jersey with a very American logo (The Steeler is wearing a helmet) and name to match and in 1992 and again in 1998 sold out their (apparently) 'iconic' hoops for a new jersey all together and a new logo. Once again, not bagging the Illawarra but chances are that like a lot of teams from their era (Canberra, Newcastle, Brisbane, Penrith) between 1998 and now their jersey may have changed several times, sponsors may have effected colours and so on but based on their 1997/98 jersey, our current away kit might possibly be what we'd see the Steelers running around in today.

As far as black or charcoal goes. No, just so. Be it Steeler or Saint, we have two colours, Red and White. No need to mess with that.

Here's an out of the box idea, why don't the Dragons have the red v and a Steelers jersey as their home and away jerseys but switch which design is the home jersey and which is the away every couple of years.
