These certainly could not be the correct ratings for last nights game, could they? Please someone tell me they are wrong. If they are correct then they are extremely poor. And to be the 20th ranked show for the night too.

eh.. its a pre origin week, only 4 games. Hard to get excited about this round of NRL. You also got cricket world cup and Wimbledon on. Wasn't Barty playing at the same time?

I’m not sure that’s true when you take into account Australia’s population growth. As a % of population I dont think the grow in viewership has kept pace with population growth.

Where is that population growth coming from? Migration? How do you expect it to keep up when the people coming in couldnt care less about any of the domestic sports? People who have probably never turned on Channel 9, or visited the Sydney Morning Herald site.

When I walk through Melbourne CBD, I may aswell be walking down an Asian city. Other than occupying the same space, many of these people are plugged into a culture that exists overseas.

The white Anglo Saxon majority remains, but is that where the growth is coming from? If not, then why should we expect the NRL or auskick to benefit?

Understand your point. However my family is a product of Greek heritage and we all support an NRL club. You will find as new people mix with the established sports culture they do embrace it. Not for all but definitely a good percentage.

Your comment about walking through the Melbourne CBD and saying you might as well be walking down an Asian city would explain why junior fumbleball playing numbers are plunging in Victoria as a whole.

All the more reason to make SOO stand-alone. We’re seriously damaging the NRL by leaving things how they are. SOO, international footy and the NRL will all benefit from a stand-alone period.

Australia’s population growth in last 30 years is Roughly 50% births, 50% overseas immigration. UK and NZ remain the biggest immigrant countries with around 26% of overseas migrants being from those two countries. So around 37% of Australia’s population group in last 30 years is from countries with no RL exposure.

I have a friend who has in the past worked in Vicky Kicky house and still talks with people involved in fumbleball.

I suspect you are tinfoil hatter lol. I have no fear or dislike of AFL anymore than soccer or Basketball. Unions the sport I despise as they have spent 100 years trying to destroy RL in underhand ways.

I am very envious of the way AFL is run and supported, I wish RL had grown in Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane rather than in NSW. The game would be twice the size by now.

That state game was a cracker! Deserves top notch ratings all over Australia! And elsewhere wherever it's shown!

Ratings were well down across the board for an origin, let alone a decider. The series felt very flat for me, the game thrives on tribalism and it just wasn’t there, I don’t think the two coaches help much.

I also think it’s on too late, start it at 7.30 ffs and people mightn’t go to bed at halftime.

Fair point. The footy was excellent. So don't think the marketing and promotion of the series was up to scratch. There is an element within society that choose to ignore our great sport. That may have increased over recent times. Disenfranchised fans not joining in could be a factor? Yes. Agree . For what was on show(great footy!) the Metropolitan tv ratings were poor. Not sure about the regional figures. TBC.
PS. Got a feeling the pubs and clubs were well patronized (especially in Sydney-good weather ) So this must effect tv ratings as those eyeballs in those venues are not counted in ratings figures. Think the "party" crowd may have impacted on this decider as far as Sydney tv ratings go last night. Just a hunch.?
