Its a combined A Grade / SS squad, but essentially the Massey is combined RM /SS. and they need a couple to come up.
Its also just not the players not up to the standard
Ok who else not up to the standard apart from the players then?

I saw a bit of the first half and thought it was pretty decent for a round 1 game
Ok i saw quite a few handling errors although it was wet. But i also several silly poor choices in attack from both sides. Along with some very poor defensive efforts. The second half was worse than the first half.

Defence can’t have been to bad. Only 24 points in the game. SS results regularly look like cricket scores.

Defence in both the St.Marys vs Asquith games was 1st class and those two Shield teams will both put away most others this year comfortably, especially in the dry weather. Pat Weisner said after the Massey game that it was a semi final intensity and a far higher standard then their semi vs Burwood there last year and that neither team made a line break for 80mins because the defense of both teams was outstanding and also due to the wet weather with most tries coming off kicks. Both games could have gone either way and both clubs will have good seasons and are well drilled.

There was only 24 ppints total , 12 all because both teams made so many errors in attack. I saw Asquith score a try from 20 m out straight through the middle of st marys , the bloke was untouched. Soft defence.

I agree the RMC game was high quality. You need to get your eyes checked if you think the SS game was anywhere near that. If St Marys continues to f**k up their positional selection and interchange options in SS they’ll struggle to win against the stronger SS clubs.

Obviously the Shield game was not as good as the Massey game as they are different levels. My eyes work fine and as i said, defensively both teams were good for Shield level and were well drilled despite the weather meaning some bad handling. If you think those two teams were bad defensively wait until you watch Brothers, Hills, Ryde, Uni and some of the others. Both teams will be top 4 from what I saw.

I guess we’ll see more as the season progresses

Hi folks. Never posted here before but I go to a few of these Massey Cup games and was at the St Mary's game on Saturday. Both clubs looked solid. Considering the conditions I thought ball control in the Massey game was really good as was the defence. Game was high quality given the early stage of the season. St Mary's looked a little more organised and deserved the win but Asquith were in it all the way. As expected St Mary's are always strong and have to be one of the favourites in both grades.

I think St Marys may be stronger than last season but they will tested again on Saturday when they travel to AKR to face a rejuvenated Mounties side that was very impressive in its first hit out against Hills District.

In the SS, East Campbelltown have to be favourites. They have retained nearly all of their premiership side and a few more from previous seasons have returned. They went into the season without any trial games and beat Moorebank, a top 4 side last year, by 30-22. Moorebank included Zac Saddler in their team for Round 1. He was recently upgraded to a full time contract by the Bulldogs. East Campbelltown play Asquith on Sunday.

I think based on watching east campbelltown last year that they should win comfortably against Asquith SS

Experience is invaluable and thats one of East campbelltown's assets. Every year I think they are beatable, but they just seem to hang in there

St marys v Asquith SS score 12 all. Very scrappy game and was of overall poor standard from both teams.
It was probably there for St Marys to win but some strange interchange selections and players playing out position probably cost them. At one stage they had 2 wingers playing second row and a back rower playing hooker???? Very odd.

St Marys SS seem to have fixed the wingers in the 2nd row issue for round 2 with Blake McDermott back on the wing and Ratu Tuisese back in NSW Cup. With Joe Vaegaau and Shannan Wood back from injury, St Marys now have 13 of their GF team - 9 in RMC and 4 in SS and they will face another in Robert Vai in the Mounties opposition.

Looks like the Sydney Uni SS is largely stockpiled Glebe Burwood players.

We carry the teams in a far more readable format here on LU http://bit.ly/LUteamlists
St Marys like to play games and f**k young blokes around. They’re named a hooker, a prop and 2 wingers on the bench this week in SS and if you look at penriffs flegg team there is a lot of gaps in the team list.
Looks like Shane Rodney is being told by penriff who he can play and in what positions, perhaps he should act like a proper coach and pick his best team, instead of trying to kiss ass and try and get a job with penriff.

I would take most Flegg lineups with a grain of salt - ignore NSWRL's site and go with what's on ours or Penrith's own site
