If they have so much potential why aren’t selected for Flegg?
More likely if they don’t get picked for flegg, then they’re better off playing C grade with their local club until they improve enough to be picked for flegg.
Some of the 20-23 year olds can still go from SS and RMC into NSW cup.
As proved by the failure of NYC to provide enough 20 year olds that were first grade ready. The focus is now on NSW and QLD cup as the feeder for first grade.

absolutely correct. Of course underage players not selected in rep comps should play in their age group. That is what happened for 50 years yet somewhere along the line some genius said if they are not good enough for a junior competition put them in a senior competition!

St Marys RMC/SS is a district club unlike the St Marys age teams in Penrith JRL so they should pick their best combinations. If the club suddenly becomes deplorably weak then these unwanted Penrith players might then warrant selection.

North Sydney has accepted the reality that there are RMC players that are better than players in NSW Cup squads. Last year and again yesterday Asquith players played NSW Cup while Norths NSW Cup squad are playing RMC and SS.

RMC
Hills 14 Wenty 10
Glebe Burwood 44 Blacktown 10

SS
Hills 38 Wenty 32
East Campbelltown 44 Asquith 18
Guildford 32 Belrose 6

Hills RMC lost Dylan O'Connor, Lucky Taavale and Lyndon Hills to NSW Cup but gained Yileen Gordon and Lachlan Walmsley. The presence of Gordon meant that their pack had 4 forwards aged 30 or more that had a total of 170 games in NRL or ESL. Hills beat Wenty in the first game last season but still finished in the bottom 3. The connection with Souths adds to their competitiveness this year.

GB bombed a few opportunities that could have resulted in a cricket score but they will be happy to have a game under their belts and look to capitalise next week. Although Lachlan Stein had previously agreed to play with Cessnock this season he was back in the GB side today and like many others, had a good game.

In SS, East Campbelltown look onsong and after 2 rounds Hills have already won as many games as they did all season last year. Kelly Benson has returned from the Newcastle comp and played SS for Hills today. He will increase the strength of the RMC fringe players.

That is more due to Pat Weisners recruitment being better then the Bears is so they take Asquiths best and give Asquith back players clearly not as good. If the Bears recruited higher calibre players then it wouldn't happen or if Asquith recruited poorly then it would also not happen.

It happens at other clubs too mate. A lot of the blokes at St Marys are better than the Penrith blokes. Too much ego from the Penrith recruitment officer jim jones. Who coincidentally is married into the Cartwright family

Yeah they were a little rusty at times, but then they hadn’t played for a month and it was the first time the full group had played together, so all things considered it was a solid performance. Lachlan Stein had a blinder, with Matt Jurd and Royce Tout strong up the middle. Luke Polselli and Kyle Lovett both played strongly on debut and there were plenty of other honourable mentions including Pio Nakubawai who grabbed a double.

I agree lots of Ron Massey clubs have better players then their ISP teams do. My point is that Norths are one of the few who take Asquith players before there own which wouldn't happen if Asquith had rubbish players. Penrith would never take St.Mary's 3 best players before their own contracted ISP players.

Where do you want them to play these kids?Penrith don’t care about the 22-23 year olds signed to St Mary’s. They care about their young players with potential playing tough footy in a comp with a decent standard.

they can play in U18s or U20s conference competitions. IF they aren't good enough to play Flegg straight off they are mostly not ready for SS or RM.

i agree a lot of the fringe kids that are contracted aren’t upto Massey and shield. Clubs like Penrith don’t want their kids playing back in their age groups for some reason. As I said originally, if you get into bed with an nrl/isp club then you have to take the good with the bad unfortunately.

Its a double headed thing, gives a perceived pathway but along with everything RL a decent whack of nepotism.

RL is also a sbuject game, I have seen several players that I thought were rubbish with low work rates, yet their coach loved them. I have also seen it the other way round too

St Marys may not care too much about SS but they are serious about RMC so that team will not be sabotaged.

Years ago a feeder team was actually a feeder ie the NRL club would make a financial contribution to the minor club and be able to call on its players. This meant that the NRL clubs signed a limited number of players and players of questionable standards did not get a look in.

One of the first feeders was Sydney Bulls. They formed in 2000, had 7-8 guys with some first grade experience, did not make the finals but when Metro finished in July, Paul Khoury and Alex Krewanty were immediately elevated to the Bulldogs reserves, played all the finals and won a premiership.

In the following years several Bulls would play for the Bulldogs during State of Origin and in 2006 when the Bulls won their last title, they were minor premiers so had the first week off in the finals but 7 of the team were playing the final NSW Cup round for the Bulldogs.

Things have gone way off track since then with NRL clubs signing absurd numbers of players.

I was joking about penriff sending flegg throw backs to play RMC at St Marys. But strange things happen when people’s egos come into it.

I see they have listed former Manly NSW Cup player Rhys Wolloghan also

When Cliff Lyons was coaching both Manly NSW Cup and Narraweena, and Manly played on Saturday, Wolloghan was one of a few that would back up for Narraweena on the Sunday. He also played in Peninsula SS in the early rounds of 2015.

Alec Susino returned from Britain to play with Mounties against Hills in round 1 but after sponsors and fans of Betfred Championship club, Barrow Raiders raised funds for air fares and contract payments, Susino returned to the UK and resumed playing there on Sunday.
