RMC

Hills 36 Glebe Burwood 18
Wests 43 Cabramatta 24

Cabra and GB remain on 2 wins whereas the 4th win by Wests means they have already won more games this season than their results in 2017 and 2018. Hills are now only one short of their 4 wins from last season with Pat Bolea scoring 9 tries in the last 4 games.

SS

St Marys 52 Belrose 0

Knowing that Belrose are long odds to win a game this season, St Marys decided to make 10 changes from last week. Isaac Thompson and Zac Ryan dropped back from RMC and Reece Goldsmith played his first game for 2019 but the remainder appear to be a youth contingent.

Thompson became the 6th player to appear in all 3 grades in 2019 - 3 in NSW Cup, 3 in RMC and 1 in SS.

It was a very poor performance from st marys. It should have been 80 nil. Belrose had nothing, belrose fought hard, But all the st marys tries were from soft defensive efforts. Hardly convincing.

RMC

Mounties 28 Guildford 8
Asquith 34 Brothers 20
Wenty 32 Blacktown 12

Neither side could put the other away at AKR and Mounties were only in front 10-8 with 15 minutes to go and then the floodgates opened. Both sides failed to capitalise on earlier opportunities. The bottom 2 sides put up decent showings in not allowing Asquith or Wenty to have it all their own way. The Roosters contracted, Sione Tuipulotu, became the 7th player to play in all 3 grades - 1 in NSW Cup, 1 in RMC and 4 in SS and Kurtis Preece the 8th - 2 in NSW Cup, 6 in RMC and 1 in SS.

With St Marys having the bye, several players were used in NSW Cup, which saw Penrith inflict the first defeat on Mounties.

SS

University 24 Hills 20
Moorebank 41 Wenty 16
Asquith 62 Brothers 10
Cabramatta 32 East Campbelltown 18
Ryde Eastwood 76 Guildford 6

Cabra are now the only undefeated team. Moses Manu played his second SS game for 2019 and again managed to get across the tryline. He was accompanied by other RMC regulars Brock Illett and Brandon Finnegan. Sam Kimi Ione was back in ECE colours today after being left out of the Wests RMC side.

It looks like these 2 sides are the only serious contenders. There have been several posts here indicating that 3rd placed St Marys are not up to it but perhaps the smokies are Ryde Eastwood and Moorebank. RE came into the comp in the main with players from their 2018 U/20 conference team as well as 3 more from their rivals East Hills. They lost their first 3 games and then won their next 4. Moorebank also had a horror start with 4 losses but now have won 3 on the trot.

If Asquith keep the tram they had on the field today then they will be hard to beat in Sydney Shield. They had Peter Nay, Jake Pickering, Fijian winger, Trey Brown, Matt Place and a couple of others out today and still had guys like Jacob Samoa, Curtis Johnston and Kurtis Preece all running around in Shield. They had a lot out vs Ryde Eastwood and East Campbelltown.

St Marys SS will be thereabouts at the end of the season if they stop pandering to penriff and pick their best team. Last weekend against Belrose they played 2 penriff flegg young blokes that weren’t up to SS standard, I am not sure whether that were returning from injury or not but either way they aren’t as good as some the players St Marys left out.
As you mentioned , some of the blokes contracted to st Marys played NSW cup for penriff yesterday and they rolled the competition leaders Mounties. But again penriff stupidly got two flegg kids to back up and play after having played the day before. The smart thing would have been to get two more st Marys blokes to play- st marys had the bye in RMC.

They have not had anyone that has played RMC this year but in the first few games where they were beaten easily that had 2 guys that trialled with Wests RMC - Jack Mitchell, who has played SS for several clubs and Tagaloa. They have had 4 or 5 from Flegg but that is to be expected as Ryde Eastwood is really "combined Balmain". Once clubs in Balmain get past U/17's, none of them have enough players to form a team so a few years ago Ryde Eastwood scooped up all the players and formed teams under their banner.

Some of the guys that started in Flegg this season, played a few games in SS but for the last few games they were moved down to RE's U/20's conference team.

How are Blacktown sitting last in Canterbury Cup and RMC? Surely having your own CC team means you should Atleast be competitive in RMC with the flow back.

Very poor recruitment. A number of the guys in NSW Cup are barely RMC standard and half the RMC team are SS standard.

Early days in Hasler's return but the Manly connection is certainly worth looking at - Canterbury's lower grades suffered while he controlled the first grade side and I don't think Manly did all that well 2004-2011 in premier league etc from memory.

I've seen the Massey side. Very good team. Should dust Newcastle.

The Newcastle squad is:

Isiah Cooper- Tetevano (Cessnock), Jarom Haines, Mitch Cullen, Tyme Dow-Nikau (Kurri Kurri), Liam Higgins, Bobby Treacy, Matt Hay (Macquarie Scorpions), Jayden Butterfield (Maitland), Brendan Simpson, Cameron King, Jake Lawrence, Jason Keelan, Kieran Cubby-Schipp, Luke Higgins, Ryan Glanville (Souths), Alex Langbridge, Blake Andrews, Chad O'Donnell, Moa Uta, Matt Hermann, Pat Matautai, Ryan Walsh, Sam Keenan, Tama Koopu (Wests)

West's veterans Brad Tighe, Luke Walsh and Mark Taufua were not included.

I think it's become very very obvious as to how they went from a laughing stock with regular 60 point beatings in SS and RMC 4 to 5 years ago to then being a competitive club in a position to step into ISP and then right now back as a laughing stock in all grades again. Recruitment is a part of it. Coaching another part.
