It appears that 13 guys have played for both GBW and Sydney University during 2019:

Jordan Chong Sun, Lorenzo Mulitalo, William Swann, Brock Pelligra, Deighton Ieriko, Jaz Flavell, Halauafa Lavaka, Paul Rokolati, Ben Jackson, Ben Pointer, Evander Swann, Zane Elsley, Jackson Garlick.

As former GBW assistant coach Mick Habib was appointed as SU coach, he has also used another 4 players that have appeared for Burwood teams in the past: Joe Kavoa, Neenan Simpson, Tjaden McLean and Ratu Cavailati.

Only four of this weekend’s side are contracted to Glebe-Burwood. The weekly average is four. Of the players you’ve mentioned above, Jordan Chong-Sun, Brock Pelligra, Jaz Flavell, Paul Rokolati, Ben Jackson, Ben Pointer and Jackson Garlick are contracted to Glebe-Burwood, but only Brock and Jaz have played more than twice for Uni. Most of the others have been returning from injury or getting game time on the bye weekend. In actual fact, Uni have provided 3 or 4 players to Glebe-Burwood this year during high injury tolls.

Earl Park, who were the 4 ?

I am interested in where Syd Uni are getting their players from. They were supposed to be getting a lot from Cronulla u20s, but given their results it looks more like they are getting them from the tertiary comp.
Concord Burwood also seem to be suffering

Uni have had some Sharks players this season (such as Zane Elsey) but seem to be light on at present.
Glebe-Burwood have a stronger team on paper this year then last when they made the GF qualifier with players like Kyle Lovett and Ben Jones onboard, but things just haven’t clicked yet. Plus they’ve had plenty of injuries and a few departures. Fingers crossed for a better back end to the season.

I am not suggesting that there was a stack this week, or being a critic of GBW, but as a graduate of Sydney University, with memories of the second division sides in the 70's I find it hard to see the institution's name associated with a team that has no academic connection.

They had a stronger team on paper last year. The team in the 1st semi final had 13 to 14 players with ISP experience and over 10 were from Newtown. They would dust this year's team by 50. Ryan King who made the rep team and has been killing them at Mounties this year could only just make the bench

Not suggesting you are, but they are certainly a standalone club - not simply Glebe Burwood reserves. You are right about the lack of students in Shield this year, but this is a longer-term plan for Uni. The positive publicity generated from playing in a senior NSWRL competition should see the status of the game grow at the Uni (where league is currently about 7th or 8th in terms of funding and stature). Next year they may be able to offer scholarships for promising league players to pursue their studies and footy aspirations through Sydney University. They might even be able to snag some additional funding. And remember they are still running a tertiary side as well so they’re growing the presence of the game at the Uni. It’s a tough slog for them this year, but they’re competing and hopefully will perform strongly for the rest of the season.

What’s been happening with Siosaia Vave, has he been injured for half the year or dropped for fitness reasons.

Don't know where he has been but he is back today but he is another rest for 10 minutes after he decked Will Solway with a short jab. Asquith have responded with 2 tries to lead 10-0.

Wests have edged out Blacktown 24-22 in the early game.

He could have done with the 10 mins on the field instead of off, looked very unfit.

The SS game was a strange one, some really bizzarre refereeing (both ways) Asquith def matched it until they went into their std lets drop the ball mode

Plenty of clubs would kill for even 6 to flow down from above. Asquith beat Saints today with no one from Norths and their best 3 players taken up.

Yeah, Asquith are having a good year and are well coached. Good luck to them. We’re not complaining about anything. I was asked a question about this year’s squad and I answered it. Every club has good and bad years. Things went our way last year and they haven’t gone as well this year. That’s life. We’re relaxed and enjoying being part of the competition. We’ve launched our first junior side this year at under 6s level and will look to build it on next season.

No, they can’t get onto any University ground with any regularity. They are all taken by rugby, soccer, AFL etc, but they are trying to get regular access for next season: The Shield team trains at Henson with Newtown and Glebe-Burwood. Not certain where the tertiary guys train, although many have trained with the Shield side throughout the season.

Williams has now finished his 12 game suspension and played NSW Cup yesterday.
