Apparently announced that Sele, Herbert and Garrick are moving on from the Dragons and won't be with us next year.

first I would like a new outside coach, not a fuggin boys club coach , clear the decks. Totally sick of this bullshit talk , this is the team I have really wanted and finally got it, but what the F##k do I do with it , ive got no idea. Then when we have a new coach wrapped up this year, go to the market, release guys like Latts, clear out the deadwood NRL and intrust cup, bring up the 20's to intrust and keep in the squad the good cup players eg Herbert, Lomax etc . A good cup coach to bring these boys along, don't teach fancy stuff , just prepare for future NRL

If true, it would explain Sele and Herbert not being in mix for selection this season

Ridiculous if it's true- Herbert has been the standout ISP performer all year, particularly in attack- another victim of Mary's unfair selection policies and should have been selected ahead of Dufty weeks ago- how many ways can a coach stuff up??

I have this super vision of our team next year.......

bear with me a couple of changes and getting rid of some dead wood I think is REALLY holding us back

GONE.....Id love to ditch Dufty ( cant catch a high ball, makes too many mistakes, cant defend like a fullback should a bit of Quinlan mk 2 so hes got to go) and Aitken ( so overrated, hopeless defender a total turnstyle and cant pass for shit) NIGHTS retired......

backline:

LOMAX ( our only long term FB solution in his best position and future superstar)

PERRIERA ( hell get the job done and turn into a good winger)

LAFAI ( not an Inglis in attack but is a decent defender with a great flick and can set up his winger, Aitken making him look bad the last 2 years I think )

MANN ( MUST be in the team can only fit him in at centre but he craps all over Aitken)

NENE ( keep him there, not the most mungrel runner out of our twenty but a total ferrari who knows how to find the line)

WIDDOP ( of course)

HUNT ( he goes alright)

forwards:

DE BELIN
FRIZZEL
SIMMS
GRAHAM
MCINNIS
VAUGHN

bench.....

ONE NEW MUNGREL BIG BASTARD PROP TO REPLACE MIGHTY CONSISTENT AH MAU ( our only real need to buy in the off season one very good prop there must be at least ONE floating round for us)

LUCH ( MUST be in the team every single week splits games apart)

KORBIN ( prop rotation, better than LAWRIE but he goes ok aswell so we do have some depth here)

HERBERT ( MUST get his chance or hell go elsewhere....SUPERSUB off the bench.....if used right can split games open for us, so flexible also, can play multiple positions in the backline so if Widdop has a bad patch in a game can slip into centre while Mann goes to five eight, OR can play five eighth himself)

Id also love to see some variation in the backline to shake things up and surprise other teams, as in, for parts of the game drop WIDDOP back to FB and slip LOMAX into the centres, whack MANN to five eighth , or HERBERT to centre etc etc ) we have a LOT of talent to work with!! I just wich Mclamass would get some damn CREATIVITY and see the talent of the kids here he actually has.......and just how only a couple of vital changes would really help us to maximise, Dufty just not up to it sorry.....move him on, let him go ok elsewhere, same with Aitken
You lost me at Lafai...

Although he won't be in first grade next year, people seem to forget we've signed Eddie Blacker for 3 years. 19 yrs at 6'4, he's one of the promising up and coming junior forwards outta QLD. Development squad in 2019, keep an eye on him...
19, that means his got another 5yrs before he gets to 1st grade if McNoidea has a say in it !!!!!!

Best 17 for me when everyone is fit and available for 2019 and best replacement options)
1. Widdop (Field, Dufty or Norman if its suits balance of team better on the day)
2. Dufty (Pearson, Aitken)
3. Lomax (Aitken, Herbert)
4. Aitken (Lomax, Lafai)
5. Lafai (Pearson, Perarra)
6. Norman (Widdop, Field)
7. Hunt (Norman, Field)
8. Vaughn (Lawrie, Graham, K.Sims,Latimore)
9. Mc Inness (Allgood, Hunt)
10. Graham (Vaughn, K.Sims, Latimore)
11. Frizzel (Leilua, K.Sims, Host, )
12. T.Sims (K.Sims, Leilua, Debelin ,Host
13. Debelin (Frizzel,Leilua, McInnes)
14.. Leilua
15. K.Sims
16. Lawrie
17. Field

18, Latimore

That team is defensively solid, has room for any covering all conceivable scenarios injury wise. The best part is that their are so many pockets of attack in the starting 13, we should have no problem racking up scores even on good teams if their off. Fullback as a ball player and kicking option, Dufty is still a ball runner and if his defence improves, because the game is faster that it was 2 years ago, the obsession with wingers having to always be built like props isn't relavent.

The Bench to me was a struggle, it needs to have an impact forward, with the skill and power to take advantage of fatigue which will be more prevelant again in 2019. We lacked an impact from our bench that could slot into the backline and terrorise fatigued players but also slot in to key position in the halves and not loose anything kicking wise. So for me, Luch and Field are essential however if anyone else shows they can fulfill those roles i'd give them some bench time. The other two bench spots will alway be covering the engine room with Fresh legs and not loose momentum So K.Sims and Lawrie are front runners

Kicking wise, we would have 3 very good general play kickers starting and Field showed a great composed boot in a few games particularly against Tigers Rnd 23 2018. Also three top class Goal Kickers starting, plus Field is a decent goal kicker off the bench. T.Sailor seems a prospect, probably needs more physical development first but i'm open to see him step up if he is ready. Nicols to me doesn't off anything much, just another safe cover option like Kurt Mann so i don't see much game time in FG this year unless their is a spate of injuries. I would try Klune before him anyway. Nothing against K.Mann but he was only ever a fill in who covered lots of positions, he provided no real attacking threat and not an organiser. I would like to see McInness be benched or play lock and let Hunt go to hooker for games mid-year particularly as he is solid, defends well but not anywhere near the threat in attack.

If we want to take advantage of one of the best quality squads we have had since 2011, picking safe options may have been good to 'hold the fort' in previous years, but it means not being a serious contender for the title. I also think just copying what others are doing instead of matching them in the basics but having a X-Factor edge that could be the difference in September has to be always behind the Team Selections every week. I have also factored in Mary likes to keep the same blokes their unless injuries intervene so I figure covering all bases, being defensively sound across the board, balance of skills, (ball players and ball Runners), have a wide range of good quality options for kicking and ball playing which will mean the slumps won't occur, because it's harder to shut down 3 or 4 points of attacking threat than 1 or 2. Also important to have that threat continue off the bench. Bring on 2019, also hope Mary and Ben are on the same page as what I am getting at even if they have a few different names, it;s the roles and the skills of the players in those roles and how they come together.

Unless I’m mistaken, Robson hasn’t been mentioned at all.

Surely, he’s sufficient contingency for McIness and the back row?

I admit that posting that team as a list was done in more of a rush than Dragons Coaching staff would have and I think he is definatly in the mix. Will check but, didn't see him in either FG Squad or NSW Cup Squad player Profile list for 2019 so I just didn't see his profile their or he has moved on during the off season.

My main point is that all the calls for having a Fullback who can play like an extra half, also getting more attacking threat out of Dummy Half. Having X-Factor players on the bench who if required can cover positions as well including slotting into starting line up. Recognizing that the need to have both wingers built like Front Rowers, isn't so important. That came about because of slow play the balls, limited attack around the ruck and the game was slower overall. That means, that extra battering Ram is a bonus option, but only if the other wing skills are there and the pace. That's why the likes of Dufty could play wing successfully this year.

Have you seen the size of wingers these days?
