Of course we are always going to be releasing guys. Maloney will get released after this year likely we already know that. One of Egan or Katoa is probably going to end up playing elsewhere. IF Shawn Blore hits the mark our backrow is going to be really crowded in 2020. Luai, May, Egan, Katoa - all are top 17 quality but we only carry one or two of them at most, so one or two of them will go. I'll be surprised if Whare sees out his contract.

Our pathways are developing more NRL players than the club can keep, more than any other club atm. As long as that is the case we will be releasing players. Don't forget both our premiership sides were choc full of young talent, its our advantage.

Both Katoa and Egan are off contract after this year. One should be re-signed the other replaced with someone cheaper.

I have no issue with letting contracts expire. The issue to upgrade Blore etc we likely release 2-3 guys. The next guy appears and repeat and we never take the next step as a result

Can’t make that assumption.

In fact I’d be surprised if that happens, I think we’ll see more players go now a new coach is in charge.

I doubt we see a premiership while Gus is in charge. Every 2-3 years someone new is the flavour of the week and several guys go to re-sign them

That is ridiculous and not true. Most of the players we have released since Griffin took over had other circumstances causing the release. The ones that we did genuinely move on as you are saying made sense:

Soward, Merrin, CHN, latu were all given releases simply because of the cap or a younger player coming up. Who else?

Yeah there was someone younger that they wanted in the team. Griffin goes and still players go early... It would be nice if it was just down to an ex coach

What players were let go just because we had a younger player we wanted to keep?

Merrin. Soward. CHN.

Latu got let go because of Maloney. Who else is there?

Hiku for Blake. Every year we lost 5-6 guys and bring in no one

From an article on zero tackle:

Since Gould has arrived at the club, a total number of 95 roster changes has occurred – the most in the league.

At some point, surely, you’ve got to stop building and start

Not including these 95 players is the fact that Gould has also gone through five coaches in his time at the club (equal first with the New Zealand Warriors over this period).

Probably unfair to count 2 caretaker coaches in that list though

So between us we can name four players that we released for younger players. 3 of which were definite underperformers in there last seasons here. That's not much at all.

I just read an article about how Newcastle have gone through a huge amount of players under brown, that's what happens when you are rebuilding, You know how many players we signed in 2011,2012 and 2014 and what kind of players they were. The high turnover was explained and it does not relate to us releasing players to keep younger players.

EDIT: The knights have been through 95 since 2015 easily covering us.

"That’s a whopping 95 players who have passed through the club in the four years since 2015."

You cant rebuild a club with a salary cap without a lot of turnover.

Bryce when he re-signed in 2017 was on $500k. Guys like Matagi etc going gave the cap space to do such signings. Kikau has a good year and 10 months after re-sgning CHN he is let go. So it all adds to the same thing

That article was from Aug so we have released a few since but yeah lately Knights have released plenty. If they continue to release guys then the same things will be said of them

This idea that we are constantly releasing players because of the next big thing is a myth. You want me to believe it name the players who were released and who was the young gun we were getting rid of them for otherwise it’s bullshit. You’ve been using that myth to bag the club for months.

Bullshit. You are not constantly rebuilding a squad with a completely messed up salary cap like penrith and newcastle had to do.

Didn't you say last year we had a top 4 roster? Shouldn't that mean we should have a settled roster?

And not forgetting we had the likes of the 2 Naqiamas (spelling?), Purtell, Walsh et al that needed to be moved on.
