NO PEARSON but allgood and latimore and nicholls got a gig for supercoach .wow

So the journeyman syndrome lives on in 2019?
I guess it’s only the squad - but significant game time for the above, considering the logjam of real talent, would indicate Waterboy has failed to grow some selection spine & commonsense in the offseason?

It's a trial, of course everyone is going to get a run. In fact I would imagine that our key players wont see much game time in this trial, and be saved more for the Charity Shield. It's a carnival day, meet the stars watch 3 games, photo and autographs etc.

It's basically a cobweb blowout, nothing more. The Charity Shield will tell us more.
Looking at the Knights team, they have also included some "fringe" players as well as stars.

Oh well looks like the whole Top 30 would of been picked including some development players barring a few left out. That tells us heaps!. The guessing continues.

But you gotta love the club media spin stated below

"James Graham and Tyson Frizell have been rested from the Dragons' initial hit out in name of player workload management"...
My translation question.
Why..have they been training harder and longer than the others..especially they did start late back at training ?

"Jack de Belin was sent home from training on Monday by the club medical staff with a virus and has been ruled out of this weekend's game as a result".
My translation. Chest infection now normally does not hold em back especially when they are itching to play. Cough Cough...are you sure there is no other underlying reason Dragons?

"Jonus Pearson also won't feature for the Dragons this weekend due to personal reasons"
Why?. Do tell...or was it disciplinary reasons?...anyway geeing up... that one may be fed dinkum.

Would of liked to be there to watch em try and gel.
Cant get there due to personal reasons. ;)

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor has named a strong 28-man squad for the Dragons' first NRL pre-season trial against the Newcastle Knights at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah on Saturday, February 23.

James Graham and Tyson Frizell have been rested from the Dragons' initial hit out in name of player workload management.

Jack de Belin was sent home from training on Monday by the club medical staff with a virus and has been ruled out of this weekend's game as a result.

Jonus Pearson also won't feature for the Dragons this weekend due to personal reasons.

Korbin Sims, despite being suspended until Round 3 of the NRL Telstra Premiership, has been given clearance by the NRL to play the Knights as well as the Westfund Charity Shield at Mudgee's Glen Willow Stadium on March 2.

The return of rugby league at the Dragons has coach McGregor excited by the possibilities of the Red V's 2019 campaign.

"It has been a productive 14-week pre-season and the players and coaching staff are really excited that the season is finally before us," McGregor said.

"2019 is the beginning of something better for the Dragons, and we are approaching the coming season in good shape. We have a squad of 28 for Saturday, all of whom will get an opportunity to play.

"The only players not playing are James, Tyson, Jonus, who has been given time away from training, and Jack who is unlikely to train too much this week after being sent home from training by the medical staff on Monday with an upper respiratory tract infection.

"This weekend will be a good opportunity to build towards Round 1 as we take a look at our technical and tactical tweaks, the development of our younger players and recruits and how the team plays under fatigue and pressure."

All three senior grades will play against the Knights on Saturday at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, with first grade to commence at 6:30pm.

The NRL fixture will be live streamed on the Dragons' official website and app, for those unable to attend the game.

Dragons NRL pre-season trial team to play Newcastle Knights (alphabetically):

Euan Aitken, Mitchell Allgood, Matt Dufty, Jai Field, Jackson Ford, Jacob Host, Ben Hunt, Josh Kerr, Tim Lafai, Jeremy Latimore, Blake Lawrie, Luciano Leilua, Zac Lomax, Joe Lovodua, Lachlan Maranta, Steven Marsters, Cameron McInnes, Darren Nicholls, Corey Norman, Jordan Pereira, Mikaele Ravalawa, Reece Robson, Tristan Sailor, Korbin Sims, Tariq Sims, Lachlan Timm, Paul Vaughan, Gareth Widdop

Timings for Saturday's triple-header:

2:30pm: Gates open (Gates A & D)
2:45pm: Jersey Flegg kick-off
4:30pm: ISP kick-off
6:30pm: NRL kick-off

NRL 2019: De Belin ruled out of Dragons trial fixture with virus

DRAGONS lock Jack de Belin won't play in his side's trial match against Newcastle on Saturday, with the club saying his omission is the result of a virus.

A squad announcement released on Tuesday said de Belin was sent home from training on Monday with an "upper respiratory tract infection" and will not be part of a 28-man line-up for the club's first hit-out.

The explanation drew scorn in some quarters amid heavy criticism of both the club and the NRL for the decision not to stand down the NSW Origin star after he was charged with aggravated sexual assault in Wollongong Court last week.

He entered a plea of not guilty and had his bail conditions adjusted to allow him to fulfill his NRL commitments ahead of his next court appearance on April 17.

The club has stood firmly behind the 27-year-old, saying it will not stand him down prior to his next court date - a stance would see him play at least the opening five games of the NRL season, injury-permitting.

It's a decision that has split the game, with Melbourne boss Bart Campbell claiming the game appeared "morally tone deaf" in a memo to his fellow club CEO's in the wake of the charges.

The club will play it's second preseason trial - the annual Charity Shield fixture against Souths - in Mudgee on Saturday week, though de Belin's immediate future appears to hang on the outcome of next Thursday's ARLC meeting.

Commission chairman Peter Beattie said the ARLC's policy on player behaviour will be reviewed at that meeting, with a decision on de Belin - if any - to follow.

Fellow rep stars James Graham and Tyson Frizell were the other notable omissions from the 28-man squad, with young recruit Jonus Pearson also rested.

"The only players not playing are James, Tyson, Jonus who has been given time away from training, and Jack who is unlikely to train to much this week after being sent home from training by the medical staff on Monday with an upper respiratory tract infection," McGregor said.

The rest of squad was named in alphabetical order, keeping fans guessing about where new recruit Corey Norman will debut for club, with skipper Gareth Widdop and newly re-signed Matt Dufty also included.

"This weekend will be a good opportunity to build towards round one as we take a look at our technical and tactical tweaks, the development of our younger players and recruits and how the team plays under fatigue and pressure."

Jack de Belin misses NRL trial with virus
  • r0_0_800_600_w1200_h678_fmax.jpg

Dragons forward Jack de Belin has been ruled out of a NRL trial with the Newcastle due to a virus.
Jack de Belin's return to the NRL field has been delayed for at least a week after he was ruled out of St George Illawarra's trial against Newcastle with a virus.

The Dragons named a near full-strength 28-man squad for Saturday's trial against the Knights at Kogarah, with Corey Norman set to play his first game in the Red V alongside Ben Hunt and Gareth Widdop.

But the NSW State of Origin forward - who has pled not guilty to a sexual assault charge - was a notable absentee, after he was sent home from training with an infection on Monday.

"Jack is unlikely to train too much this week after being sent home from training by the medical staff on Monday with an upper respiratory tract infection," Dragons coach Paul McGregor said.

Representative forwards James Graham and Tyson Frizell will also miss the Kogarah Oval match over workload concerns.

De Belin will now be eyeing next Saturday's Charity Shield against South Sydney in Mudgee, however the ARL commission will next Thursday meet to debate the game's behavioural policy which could include standing down players charged with serious offences.

Such a change could impact on de Belin.

The 27-year-old is not due to return to Wollongong court until April 17, where he last week pleaded not guilty to the aggravated sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman.

Meanwhile Manly were on Tuesday yet to announce whether Dylan Walker - who has pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges - would play in their pre-season trial against Cronulla.

Penrith reserve grader Liam Coleman, who has also pled not guilty to indecently assaulting a woman in December, has also been named on the bench for their trial against South Sydney.

The Panthers are without Nathan Cleary for the clash, but have named Dylan Edwards at fullback and Sione Katoa at fullback in a near full strength team.

Meanwhile Alex Johnston will play fullback for South Sydney in the absence of the injured Greg Inglis, with highly-touted rookie Corey Allen getting a spot on the wing.

Kieran Foran will play his first game for Canterbury since last May after overcoming a raft of injuries to face Canberra, while Dylan Napa has also been named for his first game in Bulldogs colours.

Jack Wighton is expected to line up at five-eighth for the Raiders alongside Aidan Sezer in the Bega clash.

Josh Drinkwater has been named at fullback for Melbourne to face the Warriors in their first match without Billy Slater, while Jack Bird will make his long-awaited return for Brisbane in a match against Wynnum.

Elsewhere, Newcastle have named Kalyn Ponga at five-eighth for the match against the Dragons alongside Mitchell Pearce at halfback, with David Klemmer poised to play his first game for the Knights.

If anyone doesn't think this is the Dragons way of saying, we'll sit you out this week & wait until the NRL come up with their contractual ruling in regards to standing players down while being charged with serious offences, believes in fairies at the bottom of the garden.

Isn't it an event where ISP and NRL teams will be involved. If so it would have been great if the Club named the squad for each tem rthat than a collective squad.

Looking forward to seeing Lachlan Timm, Josh Kerr and Blocker Lawrie go round in the forwards, and our Fijian flyer, Marsters and Field in the backs.

Panthers have named 2 ex-Dragons for their trial on Saturday, Hame Sele at Lock and Matheson Johns from the bench.

Always thought Johns was someone we should have persevered with, but opportunity was probably thin at the Dragons for him.
Jacob Hind is on an extended bench for the Gold Coast Titans. Think he's on a train-and-trial contract. He was a prop for us in lower grades but never quite cracked it
