2020/21 Offseason - Knights

I'm ready to move on from today pretty quick, so here's some things to be excited about for next season;

We get Brailey, Watson and Frizzell - they are huge additions to the team.

AOB year 2, he has his work cut out for him, but I'd like to think he'll really mark his stamp this upcoming offseason.

Few promising youngsters had taste for regular first grade this year, hopefully they step up yet again for 2021.

Project Tex could be exciting, although I'm not convinced he'll be the 5/8th answer.

Hopefully Pearce rebounds from what was possibly his worst season.

And I would certainly feel confident of making the 8 again.

What is the point of Tex? We put the lad out there to play like Guerra. Why isn't he sniffing around the ruck every single tackle to get on an offload. Why isn't he coming back on the inside for a inside ball. What's he doing out on an edge taking hit ups? He should be giving Ponga a rest and doing the dirty back up work the fullback usual does so Ponga can concentrate on play making.

Brailey, Frizzell and Watson will be welcome additions. I really hope Watson can stay fit because his enthusiasm lifts the speed and intensity of our team.

Willing to give Pearce maybe half a season next year to prove himself. If he can't pick himself up, we need to drop him and let our youngsters grow in our set up.

The fact that Gardiner is saying we are looking for a 5/8 in the off-season shows the club doesn’t think Phoenix or Tex are the answer.

There’s no dropping Pearce. We either chase someone now, or he is ours for the season as long as he is fit.

We’ve done juniors growing in first grade. That’s not going to cut it.

The lack of promising juniors coming through our club is scary. 2 Saifitis and Bradman Best isn’t much to show in first-pick first graders for the past 5 years.

And yes I know Fitzy and Sione are there too, but they aren’t exactly top quality.

Canberra seem to have done well - Starling and Young

Is Ponga at fullback and not at 5/8 a luxury that we really can’t afford now. We probably have some options at fullback and there are certainly some options outside of the club at fullback.

Is the club thinking about filling the wrong spine spot? Once Pearce goes - whether that’s one or two years - it would be good to find a long-term halfback and have a great 5/8 to develop a combination with.

No matter what happened last year, Kalyn will be a great 6. We have a coach capable of developing him into one now.

I think Starford Toa will be good. Needs some time though. He should be the other starting winger game 1 next year.

Agree on Crossland and Tex, the coach cant have too much faith in them.

Pearce is on the books for 2021, the logical thing would be to partner him with our designated future half or 5/8 ( Lam ? ) , if we can find one for next year.

2022 Pearce is gonski and we recruit the other missing link for our halves pairing. ( Burton, Flanigan or Clifford ? )

Lachlan Lam is piss. If he’s our long term halfback than we’ve got plenty of terrible years ahead of us.

Just saw a Facebook post from Triple M NRL (if I knew how to source that, I would. Apologies.) stating Pearce is able to negotiate outside from 1/11.

Hilarious it is a thing!

Isn't it a bit like strengthening one position only to weaken another? The kid is already one of the best FB's in the game and will only get better

It'd worth considering IF we had the right halfback at the club and the right team with a system that's been in place for years. If he went to the Roosters or Storm he'd be one of the best 5/8's in the comp within a season.

Could Watson be our fullback with a full offseason training for it? I think he could...

Love his enthusiasm but the kids got hands like feet and barely a pass in him.

Watsons career is at a crossroads for mine. He's another injury away from not being extended or re-signed after the end of next year.

Isn’t that what we tried early last year. Ponga 5/8, Watson to FB. Can’t remember if injury forced the changes back or just the bad performances?

Lack of patience, lack of coaches fully bought in to the idea...
