Would love to know what Holbrook thinks. Reeks of the Hayne situation where the club went gaga for Hayne and didn't give a fig if Neil Henry wanted him or not... Turned out to be a cluster f**k for everyone... The Titans went from being competitive to a joke... Then Hayne and the club undermined Henry and sacked him and then Hayne f**ked off anyway. And all for a player the coach never wanted. This has potential to go a similar way

Surely any coach would want Fifita. Just a case of at what cost

Yeah you're right... Its all about that final dollar amount...

By the way, we can all talk about Bronco Dollars, but next year Boyd will be off the books and I'm certain they'll do whatever they can to get Bird and Milford off the books and pay some of their salary to get them to other clubs. Potential is there to free up a fare chunk of change for Fifita, for 2022 and beyond at the very least if not from next year...

I probably agree Inc but Hayne was always a disaster in progress post NFL yet both The Tits and our beloved Eels fell for the "what he once was" fairytale. At least Fifita has his best footy ahead of him. Wasn't it Annersley who resided over that plane crash at the Tits yet the same bloke gets promoted to his NRL HOF position? I absolutely agree Henry was the only smart cookie up there at the time.

Yep, Fifita comes with none of Hayne's baggage and dramas. Massive potential no doubt and best ahead of him you'd think... But 1.25m is a massive gamble. When the next best bid is half a million banana's less, you need to question what is wrong with your organisation...

Im gonna guess a fair chunk of the 1.25m is marquee dollars .... like hayne was ... the tits have little else to splurge that on ... broncos have haas

I wouldn’t let big Mal near my club. He is not very bright and has no aptitude for building a balanced squad.

I don't think there's any restrictions on who can receive the marquee allowance. It's effectively just an extra part of the cap.

I think you’ll find that clubs need to explicitly allocate in contracts though if part of a player’s payment is marquee allowance. Becomes an issue because I believe the minimum salary must be paid from the salary cap.

And League owes him nothing according to him during the Super League war.

Without doubt the most overrated immortal. Brett Kenny was better than him and more deserving. Actually why no players from either of those great Eels or Canterbury sides who won 8/10 comps is not an immortal is a disgrace.

Exactly. Was Mal Meninga really a better player than: Ray Price, Mick Cronin or Brett Kenny? Absolute joke.

We were a shit club and realised that signing merkins like Hayne and Foran was dumb. So we put together a strong roster mostly from discards from other clubs. Why don't they just do that ?

Because it hardly ever works. We have been lucky. Or Arthur has been INCREDIBLY astute (which may well be the case). And in the case of the Titans, it has never worked. Parramatta has a history and a legacy. Titans don't. Titans only legacy is consistent failure. They have a new coach now, who comes with a good reputation. A guy like Fifita could really lift players like Cartwright and Arrow to play to their potential. Also the halves. The idea of starting off with a well-balanced side under the salary cap, is like putting the cart before the horse. I think the Titans need to start with a side that's probably going to be unbalanced in terms of the cap and then gradually work toward balancing it out over the next five or six years. That's what we did.

Arrow is going to Souths.

Yeah, I just realized that. All the more reason to throw big money at Fifita.
Penrith tried this idea of getting rid of 'stars' and building a 'balanced' roster under the cap. Remember the famous five year plan? It takes a long time to form a well-balanced side. And then a lot of effort to keep it balanced. Titans don't have that luxury right now.

If you can only pick a couple of players from that era I'd have gone with Lewis and Price. But I can understand why Meninga got the chocolates. More distinguished rep career.

talking about the coaching merry go round

Paul Kent: "If the opportunity comes around for a head job you have to have a look at it..."

They was a slight pause by all the panelists
I was half listening and half reading this forum but when I heard that my attention was back on 360. It wasn't long after they were talking about the school girl incident either lol.
