I remember during a Knights v Eels game after Smith and Hagan had switched clubs, and Gus said something along the lines of "It takes 18 months to build a club and 18 months to destroy one- and you're seeing the results of both out there" (Newcastle were convincingly beating Parra)
Today's effort made me think of this, especially in light of the Dragons' showing against the Warriors. Three games in so far this season and the Knights have shown resourcefulness that (depending upon squad availability) should take them this season to where they should've finished last season. You can see how O'Brien has changed the attitude in that club already. Penrith were carving up today for the first 20 minutes or so, carving the Knights up through the middle and if we're going to talk about how spirited the Knights were to leave Campbelltown with a point today then we should also be wondering how the Panthers managed to leave Campbelltown with just a point? They should've had that game iced by the 60th minute.
After the post-2013 years of shit and underachieving, hopefully 2020 is the year Newcastle can do what the Raiders did last year and become a fresh face well and truly in finals contention. Because I'm bored with seeing the Roosters and Storm every other year.
And if this doesn't end up being the game of the round, I will pay $20 for a cardboard cutout of myself in a Maroons jersey, holding a sign saying 'JOSH MCQUIRE YOU'RE MY HERO'
