Anyone read about the dominance of the Storm & Roosters since 2010 on the foxsports app at all?
I don't care about either team, but while the Cheats and Forever in our shadows have been at the top for 10 years or so, interestingly enough on the stats that matter I.e points scored, linebreaks etc Souths are in the top 4 In pretty much everything.
Including (since 2010) weeks spent in the top of the ladder (3rd) top 4 finish (5 times, top 8 finish 6 times)

Tries: 978 (3rd)
Linebreaks: 1285 (3rd)
Score 24+: (3rd)
Wins by 13+: (76 games, 3rd)
Losses by 13+: 54 games (5th best)

Phil Gould warns pedantic referees could ‘kill our game’, questions need for six-again marker rule

Phil Gould has questioned the NRL’s motivation for applying the six-again rule to marker infringements and warned pedantic refereeing could ‘kill our game’.

The NRL this week extended the rule that allows referees to restart the tackle count for ruck infringements to include markers who are not square or leave the play the ball early .

Speaking on Wide World of Sports’ Six Tackles with Gus podcast, Gould admitted the six-again rule introduced in Round 3 has been ‘good for the game’.

However, the premiership-winning coach warned referees have already become overzealous with their policing of the ruck and warned the NRL against following the same path as rugby union.

“You can’t have our game becoming too technical, it’s killed rugby,” Gould said.

“Technicalities have killed rugby and it will kill our game too if we get too technical with these things.

“The penalties have got to be obvious for all to see, in my mind.”

Gould added he has seen no reason to include marker infringements under the six-again umbrella over the past five rounds.

“I’ve got to say I’ve watched every game every week and I haven’t seen marker defence as an issue, at all, in any of the games,” he said.

“I haven’t seen the necessity for a crackdown and I hope it doesn’t lead to a crackdown.

“We’re getting too many pedantic, technical six-again calls.

“… When the fans come back to (stadiums) … the fans aren’t going to cop not knowing what a penalty was for.

“Don’t be too technical for the fans because they’ll lose interest very, very quickly.”

He also openly questioned how head office arrived at the decision to crackdown on markers, warning the decision should not have been influenced by referees or coaches.

“I would assume that they’re doing the data every week but I don’t think we want to get into the habit of every month having a review and suddenly tweaking the rule,” he said.

“… I was a little surprised by the decision this week and I’m intrigued to see who instigated it … and who influenced who to make that decision.

“Because if it’s come from the referees and coaches then we’re wrong.”

Meanwhile, NRL Head of Football Graham Annesley told NRL.com the rule tweak was made in consultation with referees coach Bernard Sutton after noticing players were taking ‘liberties’ around the play the ball.

The salary Cap is so confusing, It is just not quite as simple as many think.

Signing Mitchell and Arrow and young Joseph Suaalii plus re-signing and upgrading
Murray, Cook, Walker, Graham, Tatola Thomas, SuA, Knight,
has put a strain on our Cap.

Lowe and Roberts are on more as the Cows/Shoncos respectively paying part of their contracts won’t apply in 2020, 2021

Yep I can see why our cap is tight after all the upgrades and all.

I also feel just in general this season with what we lost in GI, Sutto and Sam etc..... plus not being able to get Arrow down early that we are in a rebuilding phase this year.

I would be stoked with a top 8 finish.

Sele is going great for us in the games he’s played he’s got great leg drive.

I am liking what I’ve seen from Sironen so far as well.

It wouldn’t bother me if Lowe goes, he’s disappointed me.

He has what his cousin doesn’t... a defensive game, has been injury prone though so hasn’t got many chances to show his skill set. He would be a good edge forward if we can develop him.

I like the signing as a replacement for Dillon but not at the expense of Rodwell
