NRL caps practice games at five each: https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/nrl-ca...ive-each/6f19717a-e68e-4184-bee6-2d81e5534428

From Zero Tackle, I'm quite gutted by this. looks like we'll be after a new jersey manufacturer for 2021,

NRL clubs could lose $8 million over ISC jersey split

ISC has confirmed that the company will sever ties with the NRL at seasons end, reports The Daily Telegraph.

With the continued worry of COVID-19, the official apparel and merchandise parter of eight clubs have decided to walk away from the game leaving a huge gap with those clubs.

ISC currently have apparel and merchandise with Sydney, Canberra, Parramatta, South Sydney, Wests Tigers, Brisbane, North Queensland and Melbourne.

ISC’s chief executive Jason Schulman listed the struggles that COVID-19 has produced from a business standpoint as a big reason as to why the company will walk away.

“The licensing apparel model for professional sporting teams in general has been under pressure for some time due to a number of factors,” Schulman said.

“With the COVID-19 global pandemic and resulting effect on both the sporting and retail landscapes having a devastating and unprecedented impact on all sporting bodies, entities and related businesses, the ISC Licensing business has been no different.”

The clubs associated with ISC have been in discussion in recent weeks about the next moves. Each club has different deals with the company. Some are lucky enough that their deals expire this year so it won’t have as much of a financial impact, while others will have to work through it after being contracted long-term.

Schulman also made it known that the company will move away from AFL club’s also and will strictly just continue to support grassroots sport with their team wear.

A rumour has emerged over the weekend that we've told Gagai he is not needed for next year and that a player swap with the Titans for Arrow is well and truely on.

I don't think it's true though. Arrow doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would change his mind and walk away in that way. He'll stick it our for 2020. The Titans won't let him go either.

Plus, it was just a guy that posted it on Twitter so it's not exactly a reliable source. Still, interesting though.

I wouldnt believe that sort of crap, gagais got another year to run after this 1, i recently saw a post on facebook saying nrl had found the rorters have been running a couple of mill over the cap and to watch the news they were going to be stripped their points, well it hasnt happened, people put all sorts of BS out there. Though i have heard the fox desperately wants to link with us next year, so i am wondering who if anyone, will make way, could be that gagai could, COULD be asked to look elsewere as he is on big money for a winger,700k, if he was to shift, we could get the fox and save 200k. This is pure speculation on my part

RE jerseys : we've had home, away, heritage, ANZAC, Indigenous, WIL, 9s (that I can think of).

At $160 a pop, no fan is buying 7 a year, unless they are a collector.

I certainly wait until the end of season clearances and pick up ones I want at $50 ish. Usually the club clears their stock too so you get 50% off, or more. Peter Wynns slash prices too.

ISC have 6-7 clubs like this. That's a lot of different jerseys, designs, etc. I can see why they might be pulling out as NRL licensing is HUGE $$$.

From the Daily Telegraph,

South Sydney force club junior Alex Johnston out of Redfern

A clearly shattered Alex Johnston has come to the realisation that his dream of being a one club South Sydney player is over.

And he is now officially on the lookout for a new NRL club for next year.

Adamant he was not angry but emotional, Johnston has been told that the Rabbitohs simply can’t afford to fit him in under their salary cap.

“I would have to say I am pretty upset,” Johnston said.

“I wanted to be a one club player. I grew up as a Souths junior (playing for La Perouse). It is all I wanted.
“But I have to face facts and face reality now. It is probably not going to happen. It looks like the way the salary cap is that Souths won’t retain me next year so I am going to have to look elsewhere.

“I am upset about that.”

But Johnston is also determined to go out with a bang at the Bunnies by chalking up one final milestone.

“I have scored 89 tries and I will try and crack 100 this year,” he said.

After that he wants to set about proving his best football is still to come.

Now 25, Johnston starred in an NRL commercial as a teenage boy playing the part of a young Greg Inglis, before debuting alongside the legend in 2014, the same year the Rabbitohs won the comp.

He then went on to play for Australia the following year and was be groomed to take over from Inglis as the club’s long-term fullback.

But the Bunnies’ backline stocks are chock full at the moment with the likes of Latrell Mitchell, Dane Gagai, Campbell Graham, Braidon Burns and James Roberts.

Johnston said he doesn’t have a preference if he plays on the wing or at fullback, he just wants to show that he can be a valuable member to any team.

“I’d like to think so,” he continued.

“I want to prove a point. I know what I can give.

“It would be good to get some interest from other clubs. I do understand at the end of the day I can’t fit under the salary cap and they are going to have to move me on.

“I am pretty upset by that but I have to face the facts. I am ready to get offers from wherever and whoever and go from there.

“I have a point to prove and I can contribute a lot to good teams. I want to win another comp as well.”

He said the fightback of the Morris brothers at the Roosters was also an inspiration to him.

“They have done everything in the game and they are still killing it,” he said.

He admitted the news he won’t be at Souths next year has been tough on his family, who are all Rabbitohs fans.

“Obviously it will be hard knowing how much the club meant to me and how hard it will be for me to move on,” he said.

“But wherever I am next they will definitely support.”

Not gonna lie, this is pretty friggin sad. I love AJ as a clubman and as a player. He's not exactly the best winger going around but he is pretty damn good. A fantastic finisher.

Plus, there's that emotional connection. He's a Premiership winner here, has been at the club for a long time, is a Souths junior and genuinely loves the club. So it's sad.

Kind of makes me a bit angry too actually. How can AJ be the one we choose to make way when Gagai is on far more money, hasn't been at the club for as long and has underachieved since he's been here? It defies belief really.

Gagai still has a year to run on his deal. So unless Souths can unload him and a big chunk of his salary, the club are stuck with the situation on AJ being the one let go unfortunately.

Shattered Souths players on Johnston departure: https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/s...e/news-story/d36db9e5a7f27bcedd2648ba39f32ca6

I'm still struggling to come to terms with the fact that AJ won't be here next year. He's one of those players that it Souths to the core.

Love this! Good idea NRL! Should help speed the game up even more.

I have to wonder what goes through the minds of club officials in retention and signings. We lost Douehi
now Johnston. Now Johnston has been proving himself all year he's earning his wages, unlike some of the higher paid players. A souths boy and the club is allowing this to happen. Not impressed!

My opinion re:
Johnson, Souths really need to keep him. He's a proven first grader, he's fast, can find the tryline etc

Where is the logic in paying Gagai SEVEN HUNDRED KAY a year, and releasing a JUNIOR (i.e: Cam Murray, John Sutton) who is, imo, a better first grader than Gagai.
Wtf is going on??
I agree you can't keep everyone but f¤¤¤ sakes.. what is happening? No idea who is in charge of recruitment at Souths but - really?
And the constant speculation re Addo-carr is ridiculous.. we don't need him nor should we want him? Why do we need him/want him??
Its easy to look from the outside in and say this and that but come on..

Don't get me started on Bateman, farout.. all the guy wants is money - he doesn't care otherwise.

Shouldn't we want players who want to play FOR SOUTHS, oh wait, we do.. and were pretty much letting him go.
Fmd.

Need to start rebuilding asap, piss Wayne off, get rid of a few underperforming players (i.e gagai, reynolds) and think of better tactics...

Sick of laying down in the ruck and not playing with energy.
Murray is the only player with a quick play the ball. We have the best running dummy half in the game and all he is going is making tackles.

Great rant and yes agree with everything you say. Souths need to keep Johnston you don't let your own go unless form and behaviour warrant. I am pissed, to say the least, he wants to stay and deserves to stay. Wake up, you idiots. Start looking at players who only turn up now and then, Johnston is a constant performer.
