Ooh I don't know about that Handy. I reckon we will have Arrow and we've got Murray the gun Sua with a full pre season as well as lowe big Tom B the best hooker in the comp an improving Tatola and mongrel Knight. Up and comers like Amone Johns and Sironen. Not a bad pack actually. Our halves are solid and you watch Jimmy step up with a full pre season and injury free and Braidon to be injury free as well. Agree we need a couple more forwards to round the team off. I am really looking forward to start of season. I'll let you know after round 6 if we'll make the semis:sweat_smile::sweat_smile:
I based me prediction off 8th on what we have right now, if Arrow and Latrell come then I’ll alter my prediction!

Hopefully we get another 1-2 forward fringe 17 player signings as well.

I don’t like Rothfield I won’t lie, but I thought his assessment as things stand right now was quite reasonable. Besides Rodwell and Koloa I don’t think we have many younger forwards younger than Amone and Sironen ready to step up, our depth took a big hit. Things can change though with a few signings before the season.

That’s right Pete, the trials won’t tell us too much either apart from whether a couple of players look likely to step up. I’m also certain our boys we give their all but we lost like over 800 games of forwards leadership, that’s a lot to lose.

We may just have to take the hit for 2020 but with a few signings I definitely then see us as being able to possibly do something.

Based on what we have right now where do you expect us to finish Spock? Tbh I’m gonna predict 8th as of right now.

Second row is definitely a concern, even if Su’a and Sironen step up along with Lowe we are still very light on if an injury or two hits. Handyman where are you expecting us to finish with what we have right now?
I said it before.

It's a spoon pack.

Su'a and Sironen aren't workhorses. It's hard to tell what they are. Not really ball players nor impact players.

In fact outside of cook, Murray, turgess, maybe Knight the rest are interchange standard at best.

I would transition Douhei into a backrower, he is big, has a step, reads the game and has ball skills. I find him off the pace as fullback.

Mate that pack is garbage.

Zero impact. No workhorse.

Su'a a gun?

Remember he went to smash one of the Easts forwards in the QF and they knocked him flying.

And Sironen hardly had any game time.

Putting a lot of faith in young unknowns.

It is a lot of faith. Don't forget Jack Johns. I think he's coming along nicely. And we might get to see why Souths bought Kurt Dillon to the club soon.

Forwards take a lot longer to develop.

To pick young guys and expect them to muscle up in the forwards and make 50+ tackles is a whole different kettle of fish to picking a young guy and sticking him on the wing.

That's very true. But with most of our young forwards coming through, they've been playing next level down for a few years now. There is only one way to see if they are ready and that's play them. Bellamy does it down south all the time and has done for years. And I consider Bennett a better coach and he's been doing it for thirty years.

I would just like to add I believe Tatola should be on that list of better than interchange standard, he started quite a lot this year and he was very good in a breakout season for him. Imo Tatola is better than interchange standard based on what I have seen.

I think later on his career that’s where Douiehi could end up.

I guess at the start of 2019 when we look back it was unknown as to how Knight and Tatola would go. We didn’t know Turner would step up and do a fine job at centre either.

I think we will see a couple of the boys step up again in the forwards for 2020, Amone and Sironen are hungry for more opportunities and Su’a will have zero excuses with a full pre season with us.

Our depth is an issue though as we know.

It’s not ideal mate losing 800 games of forward leadership and experience but I think it may not be quite as bad as you feel it is.
Our pack @ Origin time will be worse.

Do we have 8 forwards?
Probs not at this stage especially if we have a couple of injuries in the pack as well as origin.
Johns, Sironon, Dillon, Rodwell and that Kaulontangi or whatever his name is might step forward. Then there's that Intrust Cup player of the year we bought down.
Sorry mate which Intrust Super Cup forward was that? Did I miss something?

I have heard no word on that signing. All I’ve heard is we could have Mago and he definitely wasn’t in the best Intrust Super Cup team of the 2019 season.
What if Wayne Bennett is giving the media some fake news and the media is falling for it?
There are some Souths fans now panicked a bit by what Bennett says in the media re us not going for Latrell, but tbh I’m not phased at all in regards to Wayne saying we aren’t interested in Latrell, I’d say that confirms we are and Wayne doesn’t want any spotlight on us whilst we sort it out, Wayne the old fox knows how to play the media like a fiddle! Ie.... the coaching situation with Seibs and the Roberts situation etc.....
Eventually douhi will become the second coming of sutto, and while your not convinced with himat FB its chalk and cheese comparing him and AJ he attacks the ball and puts his body on the line,he is fearless
Douiehi isn’t slow but he’s not lightning either, he did better imo in a handful of games at fullback to what AJ did in 50 plus games back there. I liked how Douiehi wouldn’t shirk the tough stuff and would put his body on the line especially in defence and on kick returns. Douiehi was a big metre eater as well and he got his hands dirty a lot with the shit work. We saw glimpses of ball playing back there which he will work on more. If we don’t get Latrell I’m convinced with GI mentoring him that we need to persist with Douiehi at the back. If Latrell comes and gets injured or it doesn’t work out at fullback we are lucky we have Douiehi there as a good back up, he’s not great but he’s better than solid at the back imo with potential to get much better. Also Douiehi was very safe under the high ball.
